Just saw my chocolate lab get killed by a car. Had all 3 in truck bed. She saw something and ran out into road. Truck hit her. She died within seconds. RIP Cami. She was gonna be the first dame in my breeding business.

Thanks guys. The sick feeling in my stomach is just starting to go away. This was my wife's first year to hunt and her first hunting dog. She was on her way to being a fine hunting dog. Already sat and stayed and was retrieving ducks I brought home from hunting trips. My wife has really been a wreck as we both we within 10' and watched it happen. I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

I really hate to sound like the asshole on this one bc I feel sorry for the situation but to many people take for granted there dog is trained just bc it will sit when told but it takes a situation like this to wake some people up but the truth is here the dog was no where close to even being obedience trained no pup at 4 months old should ever go hunting much less let out of the training yard off of a leash he should still have been contained in controlled environment (scenario) trained hunting dogs aren't developed over night it takes a solid year and also the rest of there life they are never completely finished and it's funny how a dog is so much greater once dead than he ever was alive.HATE TO BE THE ASSHOLE ON THIS ONE BUT ITS MORE THE OWNERS FAULT THAN IT IS THE DOGS FAULT HOPE THIS WILL WAKE ALOT OF PEOPLE UP AND REALIZE THAT GREAT HUNTING PARTNERS ARE MADE NOT BORN OVER NIGHT

Post subject:  Re: 4 month old pup

Yea your an asshole. The dog was in the truck already if you read first post. And was brought out on a leash. Before I could close tailgate and camper shell she bolted. It happens. It was no ones fault at that point. It is what it is. We were taking them to the city pound where I can board them for free while we went out of town. You don't know the whole story and I'm not a fucking retard to just let my pup walk around when I live on the busiest street in my town.

Dumbass. The truck bed has a camper shell. It's one big kennel. It could have happened to anyone. Half you post doesn't even pertain to what happened. I never Took the dog hunting. The dog wasn't in the yard without a lease. Fuck you for judging me as a pet owner. I bet you're so perfect. I've owned hunting dogs all my life and its the first time something like this has ever happened.

I just saw you post Barnes after I posted the one above. And maybe that's so. But the problem is in his reply as well. The problem with people on this site IN GENERAL is they don't read the entire post. I said the truck has a camper shell plain as day. He still comments of pup jumping out on way. Which tells me he didn't read the post. People get a the "just" of a post and comment. Hey sorry but it's a little stressful in this home right now. I got an emotional wife and kids to deal with.

Post subject:  Re: 4 month old pup

Look I haven't got into it with anyone on here and really don't wanna start now. Sorry AKA. I promise I take care of my animals and they are very loved. This was a freak deal that in some ways prolly could've been prevented. I could've held her leash until gate was closed then closed camper shell glass. It happened so fast. Anyways nothing to do now but learn from it and move on.

Damn, really sorry to hear that and it sounds like an accident to me. It doesn't take long for it to happen and it takes a while to get over it but it passes with time. I put my 14 year old golden down Friday and it was a pretty rough deal so I have a pretty good idea how you feel.

A little late, but sorry to hear that you lost your pup. Growing up I had a Spring Spaniel, and we were playing in the yard with her off leash. She bolted into the highway and was hit also. I know what you and especially your kids are going through.

After reading a few replies I only have one thing to say. Please make sure the shelter/pound you take your dogs to is clean and they seperate them from the general population. There are many things that they can catch in there and will cost you heartache and money to treated. I volunteer for a rescue and you'd be amazed at what we deal with.
I know it's free but that's not always the best. It could wind up costing you in the long run. Some vets offer boarding for $12 or so a day and there are actually places that do just boarding. Even possibly finding a friend and pay them a few bucks, could be better than the shelter. I'll tell you, if I am close enough to you, I'd offer to take them in for a little while and petsit. I'd rather see that than them get something from other dogs at the shelter.

Food for thought.
Sorry again for your families loss.

Thanks guys for all the replies. To heal the hearts quick, especially the kids I purchased another pup. Reed has now joined the family. She is AKC/UKC and one parent is master certified. She will be 13 weeks this Saturday. She is a little bitty ol thing at 11lbs. My buddy got him a 7week old that weighs the same. Today was her first day out and she did pretty jam up. Attention span is typical pup but we are working patiently with her. She definately has a good drive. Here is a pic.
