Might be getting the pick of the litter on a pretty well pedigree sire and dame. Jw what process some of you use in choosing your dogs... I usually bring a bumper with me throw it and grab the first three pups to it when I throw it, then take them one at a time throw the bumper and see which will pick it up and bring it, if all three do I begin looking at demeanor attention span and which one seeks to please the most.

bring a feather, maybe a frozen dove or duck if you have one. Noise distractions to check for curiosity or attention to the noise. (Not something that would scare the shit out of them tho LOL)

Here is a good article. Don't be lazy, read it all and it will all make sense.

None of that really matters when buying a pup at that age the best thing to do is sit back and watch how they play and fight and how they react through there pecking order

Tell me where I said retrieve...don't worry I'll wait. I mentioned a feather to see if the pup would put it in its mouth. What is the main obstacle for a new lab in training to overcome outside of obedience training? It's putting a feather in its mouth.

I actually know a good hunting dog that won't touch a bumper and got a nose out of this world!

ACADEMY is also sometimes known as a place of study or a place of higher learning.

In other words....I think what he is trying to say is that AKA just got schooled.

@nasty - you'll be fine man. Go with your gut and get a few opinions. He'll if you have someone that is experienced with picking pups ask them to come along. Also, make more than one visit a few weeks apart if you can. Just don't bring AKA with you ;)

Post subject:  Re: Pick of the litter

U have to try to pick what suits u if bloodline is good it's not a big deal my first pup I picked I choose the wildest pup she was all over chasing a 1 year old female dog around the yard she didn't stay still and when it comes to working she is a beast she will put ruts in the yard she runs very hard for ducks or bumpers but when it comes to chilling out she doesn't unless under the sit command I have pick of the litter on the punch and babe litter I will prolly pick something a little more calm and laid back it all depends on the person high strung dogs can be aggravating so if u are easily aggregated I would say pick the pup that is chilling out not the one that is hipper but if blood is good and trainer trainer is good u should be fine
