How long does it usually take to force fetch a young dog, if age matters? A week, a month? |

Usually a week or two but it can take longer depends on dog u can usually start at 6 months if baby teeth are gone u must first do holding drills when u can walk the dog at heel with wooden dail in his mouth and he doesn't drop it u can start ur force fetch |

Work long and hard on "hold", it will pay off in the end. When you think he has it down real good, spend a few more days on it. |

It depends on the dog's age and mentality. A dog that is stubborn keep your cool because it may take a while. |

Also with my Boykin, when I was completely over the top with praise when she did something correctly, I saw improvement at a much more rapid pace. |

A professional trainer quoted a month or better to force fetch my 2yr old lab. A buddy of mine who ran the field trial circuit agreed. |

Ear pinch is really the best way to go about my opinion if something ever happened to the ear the dog doesn't need it to retrieve but if u were to hurt a toe u r messing with the mechanics a dog actually uses to retrieve Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

So, this is a dumb question but what is force fetch for? Right now my dog will pick up anything if I point and say "fetch it up". She'll hold on to it to, is that the goal of force fetch? Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2 |

My dog is just over a yr old, went to the lake and did some retrieves, and she would spit out the bumper at the waters edge or my feet, so I started FF. using a wooden dowel for now, no neg pressure, besides pushing my thumb in the bottom of her jaw and saying hold. After just 4 or 5 days, she's doin better. About 5-6 holds 30 sec each per day and stopped retrieves. Just my .02 |

First and foremost, DO NOT do the force fetch before the dog has all of its permanent teeth. usually around 6 months but varies. You don't want to associate the pains of sore baby teeth with fetching. Make sure the obedience side of training is good first. Make it fun for the dog during the first 6 months then worry about force fetching. Ive had every dog I owned force fetched but, before i thought about it, I made sure the dog wanted to please and loved retrieving well before I FORCE trained. Its a great tool but go slow, you don't want to mess up a dog that your going to have for years to come. Like marsh mule said, his dog is responding well but she is a year old and has been retrieving for a long time. |

I'm force fetching a 1 year old male right now his first day was yesterday he is already reaching below the table but he doesn't like pressure he will be easy and is a pleasure to train but a stubborn dog can make force fetch a bitch just keep the dog happy and all will go well |

Stubborn dogs are the best ones to force fetch early. It lets them know where by stand in the pecking order and can make other training easier. Wish I could do it to my girlfriend. Force BJ. Let her know who's boss! |
