 Hunt test, field trial
I know that there are some on this site that think this is bull shit, and no one should ever field trial or hunt test blah, blah blah. I am interested in learning more about hunt testing in particular, but also in field trials. I think I have a decent dog with good drive, and would like to participate in these events. I know that when I was looking for my dog, I looked for hunt test and field trial champions in his blood line. I live in south Louisiana, and have found it a bit hard to find a local group (Houma, LA to be exact).
Any links, or names would be helpful.
As always, thanks,
and I don't give a shit if you have the worlds best dog who you would never think about field trailing ect ect ad nauseium . Yes that means you who posts how great your dog is, and how terrible trials are.

 Re: Hunt test, field trial
google: hunting retriever club, see if you canl find the closest hrc club to you, if you can't find one call one of the officers and I bet they can point you in the right direction, join one and you will have friends for life and the good part about being in a club is that their are a lot of pro trainers that belong to these clubs and a lot of them love to answer questions and help with training issues, generally they also have club training days where everybody gets together. the HRC tries to put hunt tests on that will resemble true hunting situations, so the training comes in handy at the line and in the duck blind, you do not compete against other dogs, you compete against a set of standards or rules in started, season, finish, and grand. I am still a member of the hrc but not active in our local club, I had a blast training and running hunt test with my 2 dogs. Good luck

 Re: Hunt test, field trial
The closest HRC club to you is Bayou HRC located in Houma/Chauvin. However, that club is pretty inactive...I can't remember the last time they put on a hunt test.
Cajun HRC is based out of the Lafayette area and is a great club (google Cajun HRC). Think Benny Landry is still the president but not sure on that. They put on a great test every spring and fall in the Morse area.
Cajun Riviera RC will be hosting a full blown field trial next weekend in Whiteville (near Opelousas). There you can see some of the best dogs in the country running, including several National Finalists.
Hunt Tests are really a lot of fun and the training involved keeps your dog sharp for hunting season.
Field Trials are MUCH more technical and involve extreme examples of marks and blinds that a regular duck dog might never see, particularly in the All Age stakes.
I can hook you up to see Cajun Riviera if you want. I will be there Saturday so if you want to come out and watch, I'll be happy to walk you through and explain things.

Stay away from Bayou HRC.
Stay far away.
Pontchartrain HRC and Cajun HRC are both really good...Cajun possibly being the best in the state.
