How do you cook those cranes? I've been told they are delicious.

Most of guys I know with DD's love them. I dont have one but I have two DK's (GSP's) and they do really well. In fact She just got a couple long doubles this week on greys in chest deep mud. Good luck on the pups. They are great dogs.

My dog cap goes everywhere duck hunting, coon hunting, auctions, etc. what he really excels at is lady hunting, they will come from every direction to talk. Ugly dog makes a great wingman. Plus when I'm in the field working he brings every piece of trash in 100yd radius and piles it beside me. Customers really appreciate not making a messImageUploadedByTapatalk1390931351.690985.jpg

How do those dogs handle the cockle-burs? With my Boykin Spaniel, its like they are embedded down to her skin in 30 seconds flat.

What is a DD?

Author:  cottonpicker [ Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:59 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Anybody getting a DD

They get cockle burrs in their beard but the come out easy. Their body hair doesn't hold on to anything.

I dont want to give the impression that i was implying you were wrong, as you have more experience with the versatile breeds than myself wpevey.

As much as I want to train my own DD pup, I know that I can not do it with a my work schedule and a two year old. Can anyone recommend a trainer or kennel that can maximize the potential of the DD? I am not opposed to sending him off.

Post subject:  Re: Anybody getting a DD

When i got my dog as a pup the breeder recommended I get two books by Joan Bailey.
How to help gun dogs train themselves, and how to have the best trained gun dogs.
I read through them and tried some of the ideas. I have been impressed with how quickly my dog picked up on things. Granted he's only a year but we had some good hunts this year and I didn't have to walk to get any ducks. These dogs use their nose like a hound they don't have to work from a mark. "Fetch" and send them in the general direction they cut a track just like my coon dogs. Really neat to watch.
