Been 2 years since my lab ( Duke ) died and I finally decided to get a new lab. I have a 14 week old chocolate female and I am looking for a good trainer in southern Louisiana. She has a real good nose and loves to retrieve. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

DO NOT Use Old Cypress Kennels in Kaplan. Guy put pressure on my dog for 2 months and lied to me about it. Everytime Id try to go see her and work with her he was busy or couldnt get to his house right then. I finally got to go see her and her ear was a complete sore and swollen and infected. She had shut down and would hardly come to see me unless I was walking to the truck and then she was on me and hard to get away. He would tell me she is doing great man... All fuckin lies Took another trainer about a month to get her to even act like a dog again... She is no champion but she goes and gets my birds and we have a good time. I used a guy near Houston to get her right. |

You better off sending your dog to a PRO trainer, those back yard trainers are just as high as the PRO's. Mark Smith out of Laplace is really good. |

thanks for all the info. I have heard of Sugarland Retrievers and have heard good reviews but he is booked up for the next 6 months he told me. I will contact the other trainers and get info and checkout there kennels. Thanks again |

If you have alittle time to train your dog buy the water dog book and read it, it will tell you step by step on what you need to do. If I was you I would train it yourself you can get more out your dog if you take your time and train it right. |

I have the water dog DVD and both DVD's from Chris Akin. I plan on doing the obedience training and getting her in the water and make sure she is not gun shy but the rest I will not have time for due to crazy work schedule starting this summer. |

There are lots of good trainers in South La. Chuck McCall and Jason Moore (my preference if I wanted a HT trainer) Ed and Jackie Thibodeax Bill Autrey Joe Perron You'll have to look further for a FT trainer I'd send a dog to Tim Milligan (TX) or Charlie Moody (MS) |

I've seen dogs that bill autrey has trained and they were dang good dogs. Bill is just sometimes hard to get in touch with. |
