Wondering if you guys could help? Got 2 video's and a book on puppies, been a while since i trained one. Mine is 3 months old, will run after a wing or bumper, but he won't bring it back. Or he will come back empty. Any idea's will be helpful. He seems to be doing ok in the other things. THANKS |

Put a check cord on him so you can reel him back in. The other trick is to run away from him after he gets the bumper while you act all excited and crazy. Get Bill Hillman's Training a Retriever Puppy : http://www.hawkeyemedia.net/ Buck |

It is a very tricky thing, if I had thought alone. |

One thing too is to take your time. My dog ad a pup didn't understand to pick it up and bring it back. So i did what rcmannjr said, I had to take a few step at him so he'd actually pick up the bumper like he was trying to keep it. Then run away all crazy so he comes after you, get down on your knee, and love him up real good telling him he's a good boy etc. After a few sessions he will just bring it back to you without running away and want the love. He will get more drive and excitement about it as he gets older. So don't wear him out. At first is all about play. You gotta make it a game. When he actually starts retrieving the dummys. Don't do more than 5 or 6 throws, then put the dummy away and just play with him. Eventually that develops his drive. The ultimate fun for him will be the dummy because he only gets it every now and then It's simple. get a mud motor. shoot ducks in the face. |

Get hillmanns puppy program and follow it to the T. Then maybe his advanced videos or change to Lardy or graham. The video is worth the price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can also play fetch in a narrow hallway inside your house so he has to go by you. |
