We stay at the Kings. Knock on wood, we've never had a problem out the old man and we've gotten pretty rowdy out there.

RP gets technical with it and says "the first full weekend in June." You'd be surprised how many people don't get that statement.

Never been to this before so I got a few questions. What's the deal with camping, Carolina king is one I read somewhere but then someone mentioned camping in the swamp which sounded cool too and possibly free? Should I plan on bringing extra gas, I have a 12 gal tank on an 18x54 mud boat 37gtr? Also a buddy wants to bring his bass boat, will it make it through the whole run, or do you really need a mud boat?

Post subject:  Re: 2016

Carolina Kings is probably booked. You can camp in swamp, depending on water levels. The good sites will already have people there. Your other two options are Santee State Park or Elliot's Campground.

As far as boats, people make the run in all shorts of boats. I've seen mud boats, jon boats, hand built wood boats, fiberglass boats(High Tides, Gheenoes, etc), airboats, big bowfishing rigs, etc. A lot of variables with the major one being water level. Me personally, I wouldn't.

Post subject:  Re: 2016

Ok great info. I would assume I could come the night before to camp in the swamp and get a good spot. I'll call the other 2 camp places to see if they take reservations. And as far as the gas goes should 12 gallons get me or should I plan to bring anew extra can on the boat?

Post subject:  Re: 2016

Most of the guys that camp in the swamp get there Wed or Thu.

12 gallons will be more than enough. You don't use a lot during the run because you idle the whole time.

Idle the whole time? Really?

Do you want 500+ boats running through a swamp where 70% of the drivers have consumed alcohol?

While you're in the swamp, you idle. There's a few spots people open up in and on the river, but not in the swamp.

Where have I said it's a no wake event. Work on your comprehension skills. You've been to runs before. That's nice. Have you been to a run with 500+ boats? In a swamp that those 500+ boats go through in creeks? Probably not. If your heart desired it, you could blast through that entire swamp. Been there done that. But that is not what the run originated as. It originated as a group of friends raising money for the ducks. This run is to raise money for conservation programs in SC. Hence why you buy poker hands, shirts, sponsorships, etc.

Has the run grew into something nobody every imagined? Yes
Can you go blasting through it? Yes

Why would you want to tho? This is a relaxing day that brings like minded people together in one spot. We like to shoot shit, drink cold beer, and look at womens in bikinis. ;)

I would not do it in a bass boat. There is one stretch that is really stumpy. The majority of the swamp is slow going. There are a couple of places mud boats can get up and run. The river is where the outboards leave the mud motors. Personally I have 15 gal of gas on the boat to make sure. We used to stay at stumphole and it was a hell of a run there and back. If you stay at the park it is gonna be a run as well.

I made it through the whole run with this crew last year. I had 14 on board a 24' Seaark, no mud motor. The proper water level is the key to running in a big boat tho. A hydraulic jack plate would have been ideal. These "kids" came from SC, GA, AL and FL and they're all planning on coming back this year. A large time was had by all.

I check the Santee river gauge at Tresvant's Landing near Ft. Motte. 77' or better makes this duck run doable in my big boat. Too much water will make finding good camping spots tougher tho.

Can some post a rough map of the course so I can google earth scout some potential camping spots. Looks like I'll be able to get down there the Friday before so I'll just have to find what I can find.

This is the normal route the run is ran in. Last year was reversed and they haven't decided on what direction they're running this year.

You might want to call in sick and get there Fri morning if you want a camp site. There are tons on the river but they will fill up with folks. Send a buddy if nothing else.

I would stay at Elliot's. Always a nice time there. We usually run to Packs Friday night for the band and then stop by Elliot's otw back to the Kings.

Ill be there, looking forward to it. Last year was my first run, Sparkleberry is a special place for me been going since I was a kid. Help raise money for the rare duck in SC, drink cold beer, hang out with cool people, and hot chicks with hardly any clothes on. Whats not to like?

Post subject:  Re: 2016

We'll be camping along the river. The ratio was definitely off in my boat last year. I was worried about all my out of town guests getting BUI's and Lord knows they would have.

I'd rather be the designated driver and protect my crew than have them get locked up. A great time was had by all, everyone made it back to camp safe and those that could still walk cleaned up my boat.
