I just bought this and I'm going to try to mount inside the hull and shoot thru...anyone have any experience with these? It got great reviews and says that it can shoot thru aluminum.

Line it up so it doesn't hit a brace, I've heard good & bad things... If you get it to work properly let me know I'd be interested in getting one too...

Head on up to grand and test it up there! The ex-girlfriends parents yacht picked up on some 200' water!

Once you find it, dive down to the bottom and test it!

make sure you don't have any air bubbles in the epoxy.

Half-ass tried to hook up the depth sounder this weekend...got it wired up to power and could get a reading when it was in the water, but when i put it inside the boat and on the hull...NADA, nothing, no read...however, you are supposed to sandpaper the spot real good and put some vaseline between the hull and the trasponder...i did not do that...was too concerned about getting back on the lake to catch these...

I will be going back to my cabin for Memorial Day weekend and will try to correctly install this, but i have to tell you, i'm not optimistic...really don't want to have to hang this thing off the back.

The transponder throws a fauls signal when air is under it. Like you said with the vasaline, this would eliminate the air gap between the hull and the transponder.

I bought a Vexilar Alumaducer for my Garmin that was supposed to shoot thru aluminum. I ended up returning it to Cabelas because I never could get it to work. Andy at the Boat Dr. told me the same thing. So I went and bought the removable transducer transom bracket from Cabelas and it works great.

X2 on the Cabelas transducer bracket. Just file down the edges so you don't cut your finger off!

The quality of the bracket is very good. Like the reviews say you will want to file down the sharp edges and maybe replace the bolts with stainless...but imo it's still worth it. I've forgotten to take it off before running through some real nasty stuff and never had any problems. On my PD boat the tab completely protects it from any damage. The only thing exposed is the transducer which just flips up on impact.
