Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
2 stroke pain in the ass is all im gonna say... but EFI makes it a little easier... fighting multiple carbs is a pain in the ass to get the all in sync
Also I dont have 10,000+ to spend on a motor... or did I?
fuel consumption is what kills ya though...

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
Guys, I know a guy by my house that has one just like this! He has it on a 11 foot airboat thats swings a 78 inch prop, this little boat is bad ass! We put 4 guys in it and ran ground all over his yard. I cont beleive that this thing can run like that. The guy got about 800+ hrs on it and he ant had a NO trouble, its a very depenable motor. He can turn the motor at 7500 rpm, the guy did some reseach on this motor before he got it and he was telling me he thinks it put out 330 horses at the prop running max 8000. Hoyt @ GT know about this boat. The only thing is a 2 stroke and it sounds like a bee running in the swamp........lol

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
i see... but not at 4500rpm... on a 5500rpm motor
its all about the curve....
not sure how the modded motors torque curve looks... but i sure wish someone i know would send me one so i can extrapolate...

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
there are several options in that line of engine. anyone of the rotax, cyuna, and all the snowmobile engines. these will make a great airboat power unit. most have all ready been proven in the ultra lite and experamental aircraft. a ready made gear reduction or a redrive from j-bird are available. as for torque, remember torque is multiplied by the reduction. say it makes 50 lbs at the crank @ sat 6000 rpm. it would make 100 lbs at 3000 +or- with parisidic loss.

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
most of the MM guys care about break HP and TQ... most only run a 1.15:1 or 1.25:1 reduction... which aint much TQ multiplication like us airboaters have...
i am curious what my Generac will put out in TQ max and at 4600rpm... anyone have a guess...

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
Bricia Are you saying your gonna get more hp out of the modded generac than the modded BS!! I have seen both modded and drove both the generac dont have shit on the side of the bs!! I dont beleive that you can even come close to getting 70 hp out of the generac!! Just my .02!!

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
DDM.... we shall see... that is all I can say right now... you ain't gotta clue what was done to this engine as far as mods...
if you are refering to Generac that PD used a while back... a lot has changed with them since then... totally different carbs... which i am going mikuni any way... totally different set of ignition coils... my internals have been completely redone... only item still stock is the crankshaft...
but all I can say is I will see how it goes since it is still being built...
but in my opinion yes I will have more HP out of a Generac and more TQ out of a Generac than what a modded Briggs....
oh and yea I will get it at lower compression and lower RPMs...

Re: 80 HP air cooled engine
which mike ya talking about?
I also hinted to the amount of "cu in" in one or my post above... that should tell ya how big it is...
my Briggs was pushing 70 so I think this motor will easily get up there... I am feeling 70+ at the minimum...
