Re: New MMT Member Intros
Billy Goodson here,
No mud boat yet. The problem is I developed a new addiction, flounder gigging. I have a friend (BBB) with a Mud boat that got me hooked on the gigging. I rigged up my old tracker but I'm already tired of putting around trying to avoid knocking the foot off the damned thing! I am here to learn, and research.
Looking to build the ultimate giggin boat!

Nathan here. New to MMT and MM's. Bought a MB 27 Mini this last week. No boat for it yet, but it'll come. Interested in learning more about these things. Plan to use it duck hunting in the Everglades.

Re: New MMT Member Intros
Hello My name is Sean, I am in Yuma, Arizona USA. I currently have a 12ft polar craft john boat that I am looking to upgrade with a mud motor. Currently it is powered by an '83 johnson 7.5 and i must say the engine is a great lil motor, however it is lacking in several areas. 1st off i got fatter as i aged, as did my fishing buddies so while it used to just plane out with two peeps and fishing or hunting gear, now it fails to do so and i get a whopping 8.7mph GPS'ed. The other headache is that the lower Colorado river is rife with very thick coontail weeds in the areas i like to bass fish in...I would guess that i dont need to tell you that when then weeds mat the surface a standard outboard gets stuck real fast.
I am fortunate enough to have found this forum, and after several weeks of lurking decided to join if nothing else than to say thank you for the valuable information I have gleaned from this forum.
I am on a strict budget right now, so if i want a mud motor I am going to have to fabricate it with what i have on hand. My current best option is a honda 250r single cylinder 2-stroke for the powerplant, I have read a few times that the 2-strokes have issues with low torque and are generally avoided, but that is what i have. My intent is to use the engine with a torque converter that it came with (belt drive) to help me get over the hump with the low torque issue and hopefully to allow for a bit more speed when i get up on plane. I spent the last few nights designing the short tailed drive unit on the PC and will be purchasing the aluminum to fabricate the drive housing from soon. From talking with a few people it appears that I will want a 3/4 to 1" prop shaft to assure that it wont get bent due to a prop strike. I am still looking for the right prop but with approx 25hp available and a torque converter I am leaning towards 12x12.
anyhow glad to meet you all, and hopefully soon i will join you in the mud motor powered boat ranks.
Sean
