Get your heads decked, put oversized stainless valves in, and either shim your valve springs or replace wit double wound springs. Also get a stainless aftermarket exhaust dat flows better.

After that if you still want more you can get a better cam, or carb, or both.

Yeah, prolly carb. Depends on what all you do with the heads. With rr's, ss valves, springs, port work, and decking, you get pretty close to a grand. No rr's or new springs save you few hundred bucks... Really depends on who is doing the work though.

i did my heads, cam, jetted my stock carb, exhaust, shimmed my valve springs, and advanced my timing for 1700 bucks with labor involved in all of that.......well worth the money and plenty satisfied with the results.

I would say you would have 200+ in gaskets, and have to pay someone to install the cam if you didnt know how. I have about 1650 in my heads, carb, exhaust, gaskets. I got a little bit of a deal when I bought it all at once from keith. and back then the cross over exhause was 480, instead of 399 like it is now.
