 Electric Fuel Pump
I have a 18hp longtail go-devil. It seems like it is running out of gas. I think that i need an electric fuel pump. Which one is recommended. I looked at one on the autozone website. It is a mr gasket 2-3.5 psi. What do ya'll think?

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
That one will work fine. You more than likely have an issue somewhere else that could be fixed, but that pump may help.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
yea i have a 16 hp briggs and i put a e pump on and i use quick connects and primer bulb with no problem. easy to wire up and i've been running it for 2 years now. the one that will work the best is the facet 40178 . it has 36" of dry lift check valve and positive shut off. the thing is if every thing is purfect no air leaks or crank pressure problems, then ur good to go. but i always ask this question. how many cars do you see on the road with mechanical fuel pumps? http://www.facet-purolator.com/index.ph ... &Itemid=31

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
I'm about to install the same pump on a 23 briggs do I need to leave the stock fuel pump on or do I take it off. If I take it off what do I use to close the valve cover where the vacuum hose for the old fuel pump was connected.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Leave the stock fuel pump on the motor, it acts as a fuel regulator and feeds the carb what it needs. No need to take it off! You'll be absolutely fine with it!

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
I bypassed mine. Just picked up some rubber plugs from the auto parts store and put them over the fitting on the motor and the one's on the pump. I carry a spare piece of hose so that I can hook it up if needed. The pressure from the external pump can damage the diaphragm in the stock pump...

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
They have a 2-4psi at the local napa. I think that i am gonna go with it. That way i do not have to go to autozone. I like to support my local businesses when i can.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Take a look at the Facet cube pumps. They're a little more than the Mr. Gasket pumps but are a lot more reliable in the long run. A lot of people use them in airplanes because of their reliability.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
I bought my Facet at Napa for under $45. Before I bought it, I researched quite a bit on here and on other forums and it seemed like a lot of people were having issues with the Mr. Gasket pumps and very few were complaining about the Facet Cube Pumps. So since most of the time we are in the middle of no where and wanting to get back, reliability was the most important thing for me.
One thing that I found was that the Facet Gold pumps which are the round ones with the built in filter were universally accepted as the best Facet makes but they were $80 and not worth buying for a mud motor in my opinion. Just be sure to put an inline fuel filter BEFORE the pump so that it doesn't fail on you and put an inline 5 amp fuse on it as well.
A good thing to carry with you as well is a primer bulb or a spare fuel pump in case your pump fails you'll still be able to get back. I got lucky and my engine came with a lower quality e fuel pump that I keep on the boat in case.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Get a meter and see which wire is hot with the ignition switch in the on position then splice into it.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
yall really need to be using relays to run a fuel pump. those lawnmower keyswitches cant handle that kind of load.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Machine, my pump pulls between 1 and 3 amps but I'm sure it must be less since Facet recommends that at least a 3 amp fuse be put on the pump. Do you think that such a small load like that will burn out one of these key switches? I've touched the wiring on mine after running it for a while and it doesn't have any heat build up on it at all.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
a facet cube pulls 1.6a on avg. I agree thats not much. but I'm not taking a chance cause then youre gonna have a burned out keyswitch and be stranded. its no problem to install a relay and curb that problem but who knows. may be a non- issue.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
Where are ya'll mounting the pump at? I was thinking on the side of the motor but that goes against everything in the directions that came with the pump. Are ya'll hooking it to an oil pressure switch like the directions say? or are you just hooking it to a keyed hot.

 Re: Electric Fuel Pump
yea i have mine wired to a hobbs adjustable pressure switch. If you are not using your carb fuel shut off solenoid circuit wire "white" you can use it to power the pump.
