Post Copperhead Surface Drive
I recently bought a 10Hp Copperhead with the electric starter for the motor and had them install it. The first problem was that the motor was drawing a charge when the motor was turned off and running my battery down. After taking it back the dealer said he had guessed at how to hook the starter up since he didn't get any directions with it. He tinkered with it and after not being able to fix it I had to take it some one else to do the warranty work. A PART NEEDED TO FIX THIS HAD TO BE PURCHASED AND ADDED TO THE BATTERY CABLE. IT DIDN'T COME WITH MOTOR AND IT WAS A KHOLER PART.

Having to pay 80 bucks for the part and labor just to get the motor to function properly seems ridiculous! It should have had this when I bought it!

I am not sure why this part was not already installed on the motor. I have spent the last 6 weeks trying to get my motor fixed. Dealing with warranty stuff takes forever!!

After fixing that problem, now the starter is not engaging properly and it is back in the shop.

The two days I was able to use the motor I loved it. I don't know if I got a lemon or if the young company needs to work out some kinks in the motor.

If I read what you typed right, you bought a non-electric start motor from a Copperhead dealer. Decided to add the electric start kit to it, being installed at the dealer.
Seems your dealer may have taken the shortcut and not gotten all the parts for the starter kit conversion.
I don't think you can blame copperhead for that.

BTW where are you located?

Yea i bought a pull start motor and they offered the option of an electric start. I live in Alexandria, LA and got the motor from the dealer in Covington, LA. I think the one in Covington is their main location. The problem now is that when you crank it the starter will hum a few times before it engages and cranks the motor. It never did this until we took it to the dealer in Covington. So now that we fixed the initial problem we have another problem to try and fix.

I was told by Gil, that if I wanted the elect start to get it already installed from LCT. Maybe LCT needs to be looking into this. The motor/engine should still have a warranty.

Yea I would recommend LCT putting the starter on for sure. The motor is under warranty, but the guy doing the warranty work said this part would not be covered. Nothing broke...it was just never put on the starter.
