 New Motor, suggestions
Have a 14x38 Gator Trax skiff and will be buying a mud motor for it, any suggestions? I'm looking to get the most speed and power I can put (without killing myself) on this small boat. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't go an bigger than a 23 horse on that rig. You will definately need to put a lot of stick time on it no matter what size motor you get so you know your limits in that size boat.

Personally wouldn't go with the mud buddy I've had bad experiences with them in the past. If it was me I would go with the gator-tail.

I'd put a 23 longtail on it. Your boat is short and skinny so its not gonna be fast anyway, why not make it where you can go through more stuff? Just my thoughts on it.

 Re: New Motor, suggestions
In your best guess-ta-mation, how fast do you think it could run with a 23 longtail? 20 mph?

Upper teens with a gator trax boat that size. I run a 17*38 with a 23 and is lighter than gator trax. I get low 20s. I hit 24 once but all the stars were aligned right.

To keep your weight down in that small boat, you should try one of the copperheads.
