 Re: Google Earth resolution increased!
They probably got new images for the areas you were looking at. Google Earth is comprised of old images that are now available or released to google, thus the reason why it is free. This is also why it looks like patchwork. Look through the Historic Imagery tab, you can see the timeline as they were updated, some updates were clearer, and others look like sht.

Bing has great Birds Eye View great for viewing properties etc I use this daily in my office coupled with many expensive aerial programs, the nice thing about one program is that it integrates with Harris County Appraisal District so I can search owner records from the aerial maps very user friendly for us brokers

Bing is free. Plus you can look at that same spot from the N, S, E or West. Each pic is a different day, time and even season so it gives an extremely clear picture of what your looking at. Some with foliage and some without. Move your curser on top of the word "Road" in the toolbar and then click on "Birds Eye View". Then click the arrows to spin view 360 for the 4 different pics. http://www.bing.com/maps/

 Re: Google Earth resolution increased!
Google and Bing both get there maps from the USGS. You can just go to the USGS site and look at the world map for the most current images.
