Post where to find a crankcase cover
gonna tear down my 35mb this weekend to find out where my bad oil leak is coming from. From what it looks like, the crankcase cover is probaly cracked but wont know till I get the belt houseing off. what Im wondering is if I need to replace the crankcase cover, where is the best place to purchase one. and also has anyone ran in to this before. and can you weld a crack up on the cover if its in a spot to do so? thanks

You can sometimes find them on ebay, but your local briggs dealer should also be able to get one for you. Depending on where or how it's cracked, there is a good chance you can weld it up.

Are you sure it's not just a case gasket leak? That is very common on those motors. Usually leak right around the serial number...

If you end up wanting to replace it, you may give the boat doctor a call. He works on a lot of motors and has a lot of parts on hand. Also gatortail may have the pieces from all DDM's motors laying around the shop. The case covers should still be in good shape.

Usually they don't just 'crack'- you need to figure out the source of the issue. On the horizontal it may be welded, depending on where it is. BoatDr is a good source, on-line I have had good luck with Jacks Small Engine.

There isn't any oil pressure there so would it be possible to JB weld a crack?
