Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
Sound better! You will not notice a difference with just the exhaust. If you do heads, exhaust, and carb you will notice a big difference. I was running 27-28 by my self on a 1854 and after i did the 3 above I am running 33.5 by my self and 32 with two people and hunting gear. The problem with just the exhaust is you are letting your engine breath out better but your heads and carb is not.

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
The only thing I noticed about my exhaust was the bottom end/ throttle response. I did gain about 200 rpms.

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
but its a stp in the right direction to getting what you want. do a little at a time. get the exhaust, then the carb later, then do the heads to get the total effect.

Exhaust and heads are the first two things I would do.

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
So if I stuck with the stock carb (my air cleaner is too cool to part with lol) and do the heads and exhaust will that help? Can I just get my factory heads decked, say 30 thou and leave valves stock?

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
I picked up 200 Rpms on the high end after I installed my exhaust. Can't say anything about low end r mid range. Light boat went from 4000- 4200 Rpms. I have a lite boat. Now, With carb and heads, I'm into the rev limiter on my CDI motor b4 I'm on plane. Got a prop ordered that might fix that.

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
The very first thing I did to my motor alone was put the Marshmellow Exhaust on, and as some of the others have stated, I did not see any difference in performance. No gain in rpms, no gain low end performance that I could tell. But its a worthwhile investment from stock to get rid of the tin can muffler, especially if you are running a horizontal motor.

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
Thanks for the advice on the Mikuni bracket, I have not tried to re-install it. I put my rev limiter on last night. THANKS to you and GIGA, you saved my a@# from blowing my engine. Stopping right there......
After taking off my rock guard, taking GIGI's advice with a tip and adding heads, mikuni and the double-x. Before I was running 17-18 w/3 guys, loaded up river, NOW after the mods, I ran 30+ up river with two guys. Hands froze and couldnt keep the gps out to long.
There is a price-ee tag.....down fall!

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
So with the exhaust and carb kit if you just port and polish the heads will that be enough? got a buddy that races v-twins and does the portin and polishing all the time and does great on what they call big blocks. he said its a breeze to do. will that be what you need to get your gains?

Re: does exhaust make a noticable difference?
Thanks Craig! So just porting and polishing will make a big difference? Glad. The decking part makes that much more? So porting and polishing wont be enough with a carb and exhaust?

Just didn't want to go that far into a bran new engine quite yet. Maybe next year after I see how it does this year with they load I have in my boat and then ill go that route.

How much work exactly does it take to improve your heads, carb, and exhaust?
