i have a gator tail 35 gtr and at times when im running wide open it will bog down lose power and kill as if someone just shut off the gas line.. would be nice for a little help i change the fuel filter but it did it again today!

describe your fuel setup & location of fuel tank, may need to install a small electric fuel pump? With a better description the guys on here can help diagnose it.

right in the back of the boat , it doesnt have far to travel to the motor , i also thought it could be bad lines but if i pull the choke out and push it back in it will catch back up and run again just fine until it does it again .. it has never left me stranded yet and dont think its anything serious but just cant figure it out

OK, by the 1st post, I thought air leak, but sounds more like a dirty carb now.

Check all your connections, do you have a primer bulb?

yes i do have a primer bulb.. and i will probably clean the carb with in the next few days and see if that works! the only bad thing is it only does it when its in the water with strain on it soo getting it in the water and trying it is the tough part but thanks for the help men

Does it do it constantly or just every so often? When it happens can you restart and run the motor without any issues?

as stated, make sure you ck entire fuel system for air leaks. all connections.

also, make sure your vent on tank is open and not clogged up or anything.

do you have a primer bulb? if so, when the motor kills is the bulb still primed, does it take 10 or more pumps to re-prime, or does it suck flat?


If not, install one and let us know what it does.

Yes after It does it will start back up but I have to choke it and try a few times ... And ut will run for another 5 to ten minutes just fine then it will bog down and kill again . I wa thinking maybe a dirty carb and yes I do have a primer bulb and it stays tight

Mine was acting similar a while back and it turned out to be a short on the starboard spark plug wire.

When it happens look back and see if water has splashed on the plug wires. Sometimes it's just a little bit and it will only bog down for a few seconds until it dries.

You could also start it in the driveway and spray it with a water hose.

It had me stumped too, but the fact that it only happens in the water may be a clue.

Also, do you have a low oil pressure switch?

check the fuel line connections... make sure they are tight...


then if it still does it there is prolly trash in the high speed jet in the carb.

I had a little piece of hose get stuck in mine and made my motor do exactly what you are talking about... running it at half choke it would run good.

it just stopped raining here and i went outside to mess with it and i took the air filter cover off and the bowl on the filter was full of water do u think that may be it ?

very possible if it holds water, when you hit a wave it could suck that water into the carb.
