Post Max rpm on 23 Briggs
I have a 23 LA Special Mud Buddy on a 1648 custom boat that I built. On my old boat i was runnin 3780 trimmed out and i put it on my new boat and bumped the mount where the spring mounts to the throttle to the govenor arm out of the motor. It moved it up to 4400 out of the water and 4170 trimmed out and now im running 23-24 in deep water. But my prop measures 11 7/8 and about to buy another from Hopkins. Is that too much rpm for that motor? Motor has 82 hrs on it.

Thanks in advance!!

The 4170 in the water is fine. I'd turn the out of water back down to 4300 or so. Don't know what range the valves on the 23 will start to float, just guessing it'll be similar to the 35/36.

Your in the water rpm's should be fine, but yes a new prop will probably pull them down a touch.

I don't no how in the hell you turn that many RPMs in the water, I've seen where alot of people in this forum say they are turning that many. But I can't get mine to due that, 23 gtr on 1748. And the best is 3300 to 3400 at 23mph in deep water anything over that I lose speed. Out of water 4200 to 4350 rpm.

Every boat is different. What kind of speeds do you get? Ever had a compression check or leak down done on the engine?
