You'll just have to find out for yourself. I'm not a big fish eater, but I love me some smoked mullet. Now, gar, I have yet to try.

Lot of the places on the coast in Fl sold smoked mullet dip. Lot of the restaurants served it with crackers instead of bread while you waited for your food. Its pretty good. Never had just smoked filet's though.

They say saltwater mullet is better than that shit you catch in the basin.

ate the hell out of smoked and fried mullet while we lived in Fl, good stuff. I'll let you know when I get a hold of some of these louisiana mullets if they tatse the same. Ate soem gar a couple weekends ago, seems to me it's like a lot of things, its all in what you add to it and how ya cook it. ya can deep fry a horse turd seasoned with onions, salt and peper and probably make it taste good

I was going to try gar one time. Took a hatchet and chopped the top off then just filet it down. Won't be doing it again tho. It was gross. I don't know if it needs to be boiled before u fry it or what but it wasn't good at all.
