Very little mention of inboard mudboats...
In fact, only via search did I find any mention whatsoever. Very curious now, why?
I'm going to join this fraternity next Spring if all goes well and due to my bad ticker and small stature, I don't think I can physically fight those outboards and tiller styles, thus my favoring of the inboard/surface drive setup. Got calls into two mfg's mentioned on this Forum that have inboards on their web pages. I'd be proud to talk/work to any builders/outfitters reading, shoot me a PM and I'll provide my email.
But in the mean time, I'd enjoy the input of the board as there is simply no substitute for first hand knowledge. I hope to be able to spend a Week in Louisiana next Spring if all goes well and hook up with some of you thrill seekers!

Not as bad as u would think, I have a gator tail and it is very easy to operate, now once u start digging with it will get a little tiresome, however I find that u can go shallow without getting stuck, u just have to decide where u gonna go, but once u get one u gonna wanna go places u could never go....haha. I'm on disability and just double up on the meds. Test drive !!!!

Are you talking bout prop under boat which is called a mudboat or a drive shaft out the back of the boat which is referred to as a super go devil!! Big difference in the 2

Lol, I know you speak the truth about going where one never thought about before. I will never be alone and with few places in the North part of Georgia suitable for exploring in this fashion most if not all of my use will be the reservoirs and tributaries feeding them. Awful lot of really rocky streams and upper reaches as my brother and I have destroyed several outboards getting to low level honey holes we've fished for 40 years, so we'll be heading below the Fall Line where the Rivers are much more sandy and have the swampy sloughs where few tread. The former World Record Bass came from such a slough not 20 minutes from my IL's farm, perfect for a mudboat.

I believe he is referring to the "Super Go-Devil" being he typed inboard/surfacedrive type. Regular "mudboat" is not a surfacedrive.

They're heavy, expensive, and require lots of maintenance. Plus... You couldn't PAY me to own one in a place where I would be smacking stumps often... That's my opinion, at least...
If you're concerned with the physical demands of an outboard, I would urge you to consider a console model. I had one and loved it.

Re: Very little mention of inboard mudboats...
i used a couple of them when i hunted down in pecan island way back before what we consider mud motors. one had a 454 and the other had a 350 in it. one was always down for repairs, they were heavy but damn would they dig. if you get stuck you're screwed w/o a winch. we hit an alligator once and tore the prop up. it was a long slow tow back with all that weight.
console surface drive might be a good option for you.
