 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
3 possible issues:
1) Boat is tall transom & motor is short transom (strong possibility)
2) Boat is just too big & heavy for the motor (doubt it)
3) Bottom of boat is hooked or beat to shit (stronger possibility)

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
takeen1268 do you have it trimmed where it runs the best speed. also on a small boat like 14-16 ft the weight need to be disturbed like gas tank and battery in the front also pods help. heres my setup stuck on hard clay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hp_AZbnVEE

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
The guy at gatortail Hoyt said that motor should push my boat at least 18-23 with just one person he thinks it's a prop but the motor only has 19 hrs on it I can't believe it would wear that fast I do have my tank up front and the boat does plane out it's just slow I know there not speed demons but 13 mph that's crazy the boat also has pods does a true flat gotten really make that big of a dif even if u r not always running in the shallows

If the prop was run in sand it can wear down fast

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
how were the pods installed? are they flat with the boat or do they have a slight up turn toward the tail? if flat, they can be a real speed killer.

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
If the cup is worn down on the prop, which doesn't take long to do sometimes, it'll still turn the rpm's, but won't push nearly like it should. On the other hand, this is the second boat you've had the motor on & it didn't perform on the other boat either, I'd suggest a leak down test just to make sure.

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
I have a 1748 with a 23 GTR. I run 23 in deep water. At 3400 RPMs. And the prop question, about month ago I call talked to Hoyt about the prop and he said that he thinks the 23 hp prop has to much pitch in it. He is working on a new prop. That being said, I still don't think it's the prop. You need to take to someone who can look at the motor are you will send alot of money and time chasing this problem.

 Re: Gt23 SLOW why?
If the cup is worn off his prop, it won't "bite" like it should. This will result in more prop slip, making him slower at the same or higher rpm. While his problem very well could be something else, don't rule out the prop as a very strong possibility.
