My boat has been done for bout a month. The battery I have is the best of the best cabelas has to offer. It is not in a batery box but the boat does not leek at all. Now around the batt. it looks like "batt. corrosion". The damn thing is brand new. Does anybody have any idea what this might be and what is causing it? Thanx guys

man im on my 3rd battery in like 4 months the bottoms keep splitin and drainin the last negative cell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

box is cheap and be sure not to screw the box down to the boat. THe box is designed to HOLD fluid and to protect from shock hazard.

Had a buddy screw his down and when the battrie blew its load he never noticed until his floor was gone around the box.

If you screw you box down through the bottom of the box you are screwign yourself in the long run. Fasten the supplied anchors down and use the supplied strap.

What even weirder is that I have the battery bungeed down about 4inches away from the plug and just the plug has some of the "corrosion" (white substance) on it but none of it is on the boat around the plug

might want to get the checked out...you said you had batt corrosion now you are saying your plug port has soem oxide on it.....it might be soem leftover wash fluids (if you had it eched before paintign) or it could be some flux casuing this.

taek it back to whom you got it from and have them check it out not a bunch of DIY keyboard jocks

LOL the port doesnt have anything in it the plug "handle" does. I didnt have any etching done before I painted. I will post pics soon.

So the only thing that is corroding is the brass handle on the plug?

Looks like galvanic corrosion where water was in the boat. The plug makes me think so. U got some electrical connection grounding to the hull on the inside. The outside edges of your boat likely has white corrosion on it too.
Did u recently add an accessory? Like lights r a stereo?
U have a short in your wiring that needs to be found.

Yeah just ran some new lights that werent worth a chit. As far as threst of the wiring it is the same and have not yet had any trouble with it.

Some type of electrolysis. Maybe check your ground cable to your motor, then maybe look at your bolts where the motor attaches to your boat. I would say you have a bad ground somewheres. Could be in a fixture somewheres but how do you charge your batteries or keep them maintained. If you measured with a meter lets say from the pos to the ground, do you get the exact same reading from pos to the boat?

I have had the boat for bout a month or so and when I run the lights or after an outing I just hook the battery charger up to the battery and charge it. Thats bout all the "maintaining" I have done so far

for shits and giggles check ur fluid level in the battery!!

Can't tell 100% on the phone, but it looks like corrosion from spilled acid to me.

X2 on check water in battery.

Always always always put the battery in a box, and don't put any holes in it. Acid can get out and destroy a section of your boat.

have you ever seem the $hit that grows on the terminals? thats from acid. the battery gets wet and that acid washes off the battery, down the sides and onto the hull. the battery vibrates around on it just add to the mess.

Pour a couple cans of coca-cola on it to neutralize the acid. It should bubble and fizz if it is acid.

Cocacola on the corroded posts doesn't neutralize the acid. Acid in the coke does not neutralize the acid on the come. It takes a caustic solution to neutralize an acid. Coke only dissolves the acid so it can flow on your floor and dissolve the floor. Not a good idea. Fix the electrolysis issue and that white stuff will go away.

you may have a ground issue, but ide say a battery box is the main issue. clean it up use a box and go from there. the box is a no brainer, it makes it to easy to keep the battery mounted, if for no other reason.

Bullshit on the coca cola call out. Hit it with some baking soda after and see what happens. Nothing. Acid is neutralized.

Once u clean it up put it in a case and apply a ample supply of vaseline
On the terminals to keep corrosion down .

Kibb, u r right on wif the soda. It's a base that will neutralize the acid.
