Post New Motor On The Way, What Boat Should I Put It On?
I have a 2011 23 GDSD on the way and am looking for suggestions as to what boat might be the best match for the motor. I will generally be hauling two guys (180 & 215) and a couple dozen decoys through vegetation and shallow water. No mud runs or mud flats. Occasionally like to be able to haul a 3rd man out to the duck blind. We also intend to use the rig for some two man frogging in lake Okeechobee and the glades.

So, what boat might be a good match for this application and the 23 GDSD?

If you want to make tight turns, 1644 GD round chines, if you're not concerned with turns, 1648 GD.

Sent from my Droid because I'm trying to be as cool as you someday.

Actually of the current GoDevil hulls - the 16x48 would be one of the best hulls...

I would shy away from the 16x44 due to the round chines - they draft
a bit more and are power hungry - both bad news for what you have
posted you intend to use the rig for and for a 23 hp MM...

If you have the J-16 - the front rake and overall flatter bottom would
seem - just by looking - to be a better hull - you also posted a much lower
weight....

The V and those runners on the JV may work great with waves and an
outboard - but I think they will be counter productive in the MM world....

Just speculating though....

First I would look at a light hull. And def a flat bottom if it shallow with hard bottom

Since you are a dealer - http://www.backwoodslanding.com/about.html

is looking for dealers in FL.... maybe they would send you a demo ???

The WeldBilt - slick bottom (not ribbed) - is a very light well built hull
the only complaint I had on the 17x42 I had was the crossbraces allow
for dents between the braces - which looked bad after years and years
but never seemed to hurt performance..... But mine was a very light .80
and weighed only a bit over 300lbs and I beat the crap out of it on cypress
knees, oyster reefs, and sand bars....

Not sure exactly where you are in Fla, but I am in Port St Lucie, have a Grizzley 1548. I don't have a motor on it right now, but want to get a MM for it. If your reasonably close your welcome to toss it on the back of my boat and test run it to A) help you decide what kind of boat you want and B) help me decide what kind of motor I want to put on it.

PM me if your interested.

Kevin

I appreciate the offer, unfortunately I'm pretty far away from you down South of Fort Myers. I'm going to test it on a J-16 to see how it does before I try anything else since I have one sitting here already. Based on the specs, I can't see any reason why it won't run great?
