 Lemon
Ok here is a question for you. I am pretty new to the mud motor world, I think my motor has about 30hrs on it right now. I have had to learn a few things along the way, like sand kills your prop. I have been pretty gentle on the motor though haven't really hit anything at wot. So here is my question how many issues have you had with you motor?? Here is what has happened to me so far. The lower unit failed due to a bad weld/super tight belt (still within the 20hr break-in time) had to go to the dealer and get it replaced, next time out had an oil leak from the fitting that goes from the oil fliter housing to the oil cooler (fixed it myself since the dealer is 300 miles away) Last night the electric clutch/ cluth wire goes crazy I had the beat the hell out of the handle to get it to kick on, but it cuts out again once you get to about 2400 rpm. I have had all these problems and the motor only has 30 hours on it. Has anyone else had these problems?? Is this just part of having a mud motor?? I am really pretty mad about the whole thing since I had to sell a kidney to buy the motor.

 Re: Lemon
I think that you shouldn't have issues with low hours and easy run time on it. I think that some folks just have bad luck with some of these engines and get a lemon as you said. Granted the oil leak is a briggs issue and any lawn mower shop can handle Briggs issues but frame issues that's another story. Bad weld tight belt, never heard that one before.

 Re: Lemon
I have a MB 4500 BD. Took apart the "football" pulled out the clutch switch and bingo found the problem. The pins that hold connectors into the switch was loose and casued a short in the red wire. There is no way to tighten that pin so I guess I need a new switch. The problem with the lower unit that I had about 2 weeks ago was this. Trailering the boat back from a hunting trip noticed a bunch of grease on the drive shaft housing didn't think much of it and wipd it off. Couple hours later stopped again saw more grease. Looked a little closer and noticed a small crack going almost all the way around the shaft housing. Sent the outdrive to the dealer they said the botom gear was almost all the way worn out, ended up driving the 300 miles one way to the dealer so they could look at it and make sure there weren't any other problems. They think the belt was way way to tight from the factory and caused the problems. So yeah love the motor (when its working). Like I said I am really pretty frustrated with it at this point.

 Re: Lemon
Should all be covered under warranty. Leave it with the dealer & tell him to call you when it's right.
