I have 35GTR CDI, I want to move the tank to the front of the boat (approximately 18 ft of hose). Am I going to need to add a fuel pump or will the motor pull it?

It will pull it !! But a elec. Fuel pump won't hurt anything!!

After installing the electric fuel pump , is fuel pump bulb
still required?

Fuel pump bulb is always required.


You shouldn't need an e-pump to pull that far, run 1/4" fuel lines. People have had a hard time pulling through a 3/8 for some reason that far. Make sure you get rid of your quick connects though, straight connect everything.

Is it better to have the bulb up front with the tank? Or is it just as good back by the motor?

I would think with an empty fuel line and the bulb by the motor it may be hard to suck fuel to back of the boat with the bulb, and air.

Are you saying direct fuel line from tank to motor, with no primer bulb?

How to prime when fuel line is empty?

What about when you run fuel out of motor then reconnect? No need to prime?

Will Briggs n Stratton vanguard suck if no primer is used?

Thanks for the comments! I currently run a 36 Pro-Drive. An electric fuel pump was added after a fuel issue. Been running it 2 seasons now with no issues. However, this is my current fuel set up:
Starting at the Tank---fuel line----primer bulb----fuel line---in-line filter-- fuel line---electric fuel pump---fuel line----filter---fuel line----carb.

I have always worried about all of these connections. Can someone give me some solid advice on what is actuall needed?

All you need is one filter and either 1/4 or 5/16 line, that's it.

I run 5/16 hose, about 20 ft and have regular inline fuel filter that comes with briggs (small clear filter) ran it for a long time without primer bulb and worked good, but added primer bulb because at times was hard to start because fuel would bleed back out of filter, now if I see filter is empty, pump the bulb and it fires right up

A little inconvenient but way more convenient than paddling a boat for a few miles.

They are notorius for leaking and they can cause some major headaches on these low pressure fuel systems.

We always add them even to the stock motors just find they do better when you put them in gear they don't die out as easy

I have a quick disconnect on the tank. No electric pump and a standard primer bulb. I have never had an issue fuel. My tank is forward. Primer bulbs can leak, as well as the disconnects. Fuel can break down cheap hose & connections but if done right you should never have an issue.

If you never want to worry about it do without the disconnects & run your line directly to your tank. Most people run into issues when replacing parts & failing to cut the hose back an inch or so. Some I have seen reusing the metal straps that secure the hose to the fuel tank fitting etc. Most of the issues posted are from air leaking because of a faulty part, hole etc.

I would have a primer bulb on hand just in case your pump goes out. You know its gonna happen 10 miles from the ramp or help. I dont use quick connects and do have the bulb which is laying on the floor where I could pump it with my foot if my pump ever went out.
