I have a 1656 alweld brand flatboat w/ side console that I think I want to put a mudmotor and boatblind on for duckhunting. I figure 35 hp w/ reverse is what I need. I'm not looking for a straight mud beast, just something to get me in 2-4 inches of water, soft marsh mud, w/ occasional mudflat. Questions are: anybody have similar rig to give performance info? what about steering wheel operation (I really want to have remote steering wheel if at all feasible)? I am hoping to use this boat because I have confidence in it for rough seas travel but don't want to find out "mudmotors don't work on those hulls, dummy" the hard way. This will be my first mudboat. Thanks for any advice.

ok, checked out review forum and found enough positive data that I think I can expect adequate performance w/ this hull. Looking at GTR35. Question: I saw only very few remote steer rigs and would like to hear from somebody who uses remote steer. Does remote steer work on those few occasions I will be "stuck" in shallowwater/mud? I saw the videos "setx" of 4 stuck boats and they were all sawing and cranking and lifting on their motors trying to get going. In another video the guy was working so hard sawing on that tiller he was sweating bullets and blistered hands. Would remote steer w/ power trim and GTR's version of reverse work?? I don't plan on purposefully getting into anything near what those guys were doing but when the tides falling and the ducks are still flying I know I will push the limits and end up w/ a little mudflat situation.
My hull isn't set up for a long tiller handle and I sometimes make 12 mile runs so remote steer is important.....hopefully somebody has similar situation experience and will clue me in. Thanks in advance.

I run an 1848 Prodrive Boat with a side console. I have a 36 PD motor with hydraulic trim but not reverse. I wish I had reverse but so far haven't needed it. I hunt the marsh and have gotten into some really shallow water/mud. When I get bogged down, I drive the motor all the way down while accelerating and the motor powers it out. I can go through straight mud but I don't really have that much around. I recommend you go with the rig you were discussing. I think you will be happy with it. Good Luck.
