 Gator tail 35 review
I wanted to start a topic to help everyone looking at possible buy a GTR35. I have just got my new one in last weekend (April 27th) and thought I would put my likes and dislikes on this thread.
So far I like everything about it. The hole shot is a little slow, but once on plain boat runs plenty fast. My boat is a 16 48 Ware Eagle.
i am running in shallow water with lots of stumps and have not had any problems yet. I have not put it in any mud so I have no opinion there yet.
The reverse works great for putting out trot lines and pole fishing. Don't even have to give it any gas.
I have a trot line tournament this weekend so by Monday I should have more information to pass along. Feel free to ask any questions and i will try to answer them.

Do yourself a favor and put the 40 merc back on the War Eagle, then get you a hull built for a mudboat!

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Put out multiple line today using new rig (648 war eagle and gtr35) everything went great. Running in shallow water hit on log. Motor handle jerked out of hand but boat quickly slowed down, no damage visible to lower unit of motor. One thing I will do in the morning is to loosen the nut hold the handle floating ability to keep handle from going down towards seat.
One another note to the man telling me to get a mud motor boat. I don't have plans on running boat in mud. I went with war eagle because of their great reputation for building strong boats. I also wanted a boat that would turn when I wanted it to. Did not think I wanted boat to slide around corners. But I have a buddy with same boat and a 40 horse Yamaha that is a very nice rig. Might get me one of those one day as well.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
The boat sliding is is the type of chine you have. A goods boat builder can builder you some wayyyyy stronger than war eagle. One stump is not gonna hurt that motor. If it does I have some serious questions for Those gtr boys. When we talk mud motors there are people who hit hundreds of stumps each trip. Wear your kill switch!!

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
You will have the bottom of that War Eagle beat up in no time.
Ive seen a War Eagle with a MM that was run in the stumps and it looks like a washboard on the bottom. Don't make the mistake many have made.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Forks most of these guys have "been there and done that." That boat you have might be a good one to have an outboard on but not a mm. If you use your motor to its fullest you will trash your boat. So put a smooth bottom and at least 125 ga boat on your wish list. Don't worry about your motor. This place is full of smartass ppl. Just dish it back to em and don't get your panties in a bunch.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Thanks to everyone that has posted more info for us new guys.
I will say my GTR 35 did an out standing job this weekend. During day light hours ran the river wide open no problems. hit a few stumps but boat and motor just slid right on over.
During the night run I just ran at low speeds hit 100 time more stumps. No visible damage to motor or boat.
The motor worked great for putting out trot lines and the reverse is fantastic.
There was one guy running a 60 horse out board the broke the foot complete off after hitting stump. He had just purchased it. Bet he wish he would have went with MM now.
I had lots off comments on my rig, all with positive opinions at least while they where talking to me.
More info to come as I figure out everything my rig will and will not do.
Thanks

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Glad you like it, but as was already said, you WILL destroy that WE boat running over stuff. My best advice I could give you is to sell it now, before it's beat up, & it's still worth something. Take that $$ & put it towards a boat with longitudinal bracing & either 1/8 or 3/16 bottom.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
I wonder why I never got any info on a buy a boat with braces running long. instead of the traditional way. I talked to three or four boat manufactures and did as much research as I could do over about 6 or 8 months and not once did I ever get this info. I did have people suggest getting a true flat bottom but I was not interested in that.
I plan on due a little more looking to see exactly what I need to do here.
Thanks for you old timers putting info on here for us new guys.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Probably need to add one more bit of info about my rig for you new guys (like me) that are looking at getting a MM.
i bought my rig with one thing in mind; trying to own one rig that would do everything I wanted. I don't know if I have done it but all my research lead me to buy what I did.
i know that it is not perfect for running in the mud of south LA and i know it is not perfect for fishing crappie in the lake, but I can do both out of it.
The one thing i can say for sure is I really like my rig and cannot believe I did not by one years ago..............

I take it you were on Sulpher River.I run Millwood Lake 3/16 5086 and you can tear anything up.We go to differant lakes and just ride our 4x4 boat, thats were you put them to the test. The worse it gets the more we like it.

 Re: Gator tail 35 review
Took boat to lake this weekend to do a little crappie fishing.
GTR 35 worked great......Ran along side up buddy of mine with same boat loaded about the same. He was running Yamaha 40. He was a little faster but not that much.
Reverse work great for everything that was needed. Motor had no problems running in deep open water.
