 Smoking motor
Not a mm but a lawnmower engine nonetheless. I bought a mint john degree riding mower that had set up for a couple yrs that a buddy didn't use. Probably only used a couple seasons. Anyway when he brought it over it smoked like a mother. It resembled a dry ice machine at the local disco. Told him I couldn't buy it so he took it and got it serviced. The mower shop said likely a fuel issue due to setting up and the smoke was white. So he brought it back and it gives off just a hint of smoke at startup and goes away. If it's sets and idles tho it will do it a little then. So I used it maybe 6-8x. I checked the oil yesterday before using and it barely even hit the stick. Starts and runs great but I need to solve this issue before I burn the bastard up. It's a 15hp motor. Any help would be appreciated.

 Re: Smoking motor
sounds like it needs a new set of rings, Charley. Did you check the oil when you acquired it and was it full?

 Re: Smoking motor
Yeah when he took it in they flushed the fuel lines, new gas and gas line, oil change..etc. That something I could limp through summer with and keep an eye on the oil or does it need to be done pronto?

 Re: Smoking motor
If it is INDEED consuming oil , just check the levels each time you mow. is it a Briggs motor on it?

 Re: Smoking motor
Just keep oil in it and run it. That's what most n1ggers do with their cars

 Re: Smoking motor
That's a good sign. It means you still have oil. When it stops smoking, worry

 Re: Smoking motor
If it sat for a while and has horizontal cylinders it could have had a little moisture in there which will leave a slight rust groove in the cylinder which the rings can't totally seal. It will run great and foul plugs a little more as long as you keep oil in it. Maybe switch to a heavier oil or start adding STP.
