 Welding
In a welding class that requires us to purchase some equipment and was gonna see which brand y'all prefer between miller and Lincoln electric? I'm sticking to just those because our discount for them makes them dirt cheap, thanks

 Re: Welding
I would go with Hobart....but if I had to choose between the two I would go with Miller Hands down.

 Re: Welding
I've always liked miller, you will have Lincoln fans and won't be able to change their mind about it.

 Re: Welding
if you can get a miller for less than a hobart get it because hobart is made by miller anyway.

What are you looking to buy? Im a fan or Lincoln arc welders aka "miller killers" lol. If im mig welding I prefer miller. And yes Hobart is made by miller.

 Re: Welding
Don't get me wrong, Lincoln is good, but they are still a Lincoln. Every major job I've been on had miller equipment. I use a miller trailblazer at work and it has 700 hrs and still welds like new.

 Re: Welding
Im still running two SA 200's. One short hood and one long hood. so I really dont have much experience on any other arc welder.

 Re: Welding
I have ran both lincoln and millers, currently have 2 millers at the moment, both are good machines, almost comes down to whether u like blue or red as your favorite color.
Rule of thumb for a lot of welders, if its in a shop /blue. If its on a truck/ red ( or grey)
I just purchased a miller 252 and went thru same issue u are having, lincoln has some good discounts right now on the Money Matters promo but I still chose blue

 Re: Welding
Out of all the rig welders I run with, I never seen many 300's or classics that have to be sent back. We run our machines 8-12 hours a day burning 3/16 rods. Im sure miller have a ok arc welder and I got a union friend with a pipe pro and he likes it. And if we break our machines we can go to auto zone to fix them, miller has to many electronics
You want a bad machine get a fowler main liner, yanmar diesel on a red face generator, 7 position range, polarity switch, arc force, and you can burn 3's all week on a tank of gas.
We are hard on our machines and the only thing I ever do to mine is add oil once every week or two

 Re: Welding
If your buying a gas machine go ahead and get a good one, no bobcat or ranger. Get a 200,250,300 sa,classic,D There are used ones everywhere and they are cheap!

 Re: Welding
Miller, Hobart (not electrodes), Tregaskiss, Bernard, and several others are all owned by Illinois Tool Works.
What type of arc welding are you going to be doing? SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, PAW, ESAW........Makes a big difference in the machine to get.
I like Miller in the shop and Lincoln in the field.

Yep your probably right, my brother has a '60 model red face and you can't kill it! They were also saying that they we're having to bump the rack on those 300ds' just to make em stack metal.

 Re: Welding
I own a Lincoln PowerMig 300 with a python for aluminum. I also own a Lincoln Square Wave 255 tig machine. Love them both. I vote red however I do like Miller and Esab. Ford vs Chevy kinda deal.

 Re: Welding
I have a 57 model 200 on my rig right now and the only thing I have found I like better than it is the new sae 300's. They are really some sweet machines. But I just cant see spending 13k on one. My 200 stacks better than any 300d or ANY miller I have welded with. And you can buy a 200 all day for 3000 depending what's done to it.
I'm sure if he's talking about getting a good deal on Lincoln and miller stuff hes probably talking about hoods and lenses and what not. As far as hoods go buy yourself a pancake and get it to fit good. They don't let any light or reflection in behind you and if you can get use to it you won't ever go back to a sugar scoop again.
