Re: Good trainer to send dog.
What are you wanting out of the dog? Trials, hunt tests, meat dog?
Approx what is your budget?

Re: Good trainer to send dog.
I'm not looking to go do hunt test and stuff but would like a lil more than just a meat dog I don't want a singles dog. Want him to be able to do double with hand singles. Budget not wanting to go stupidly expensive but I know its not cheap

Beadle-
Look up hrcforum.com
There are MANY retriever trainers there that can help you find the right one and willing to help you. Better place to look that discuss with a bunch of gear heads on a MM website. My .02

Re: Good trainer to send dog.
For a Good hunting/ handling dog, the training is identical for a test dog. 3-4 months can get a dog marking well. Handling is going to take longer. Confidence and step by step plan to get the dog working and trusting the handler. So 3-4 months will get you Obedience, Force Fetch, Collar conditioning, Marking and some steadyness. That will come with age and obedience. Handling will probabaly take 6 months to have a GOOD handling dog (ie one that will take about 90% of the casts you give). A good trainer will cost 550-600 per month.

Re: Good trainer to send dog.
kungfu35, sent his dog Harley to a trainer in Amite area. I'm not sure of the guy's name. I'm sure he can get you the trainers info. He's been visiting him and working with him when he's in. He said he's coming around and is doing good.

There's a trainer on here. His name is Kelly, I think it's his screen name too. He's from prairieville.

Yep. My best friend and hunting partner. Awesome trainer! Not sure if he is taking dogs on or not right now. But that changes day to day. If not, I am certain he can point you in the right direction.

Re: Good trainer to send dog.
What i've seen first hand from care and hunting from Jason "AKA Freshwaterkilla" His ability to train has been excellent. I’ve hunted many years with other hunters having good dogs and not so good, I would recommend him to anyone as a trainer. From what I experienced around his kennel and to the field he has produced some really true dogs.

Chuck McCall at Chumac Kennels in East Baton Rouge. It's what he does for a living 6 days a week and is excellent at it.

Re: Good trainer to send dog.
AKA freshwaterkilla is pretty good, guys got a real passion for training retrievers and he will do whatever he can to help you out. He does a real jam up job reading dogs and he is very good at getting the most out of your dog. His personal dogs are real good, hes got 3 of them and I'd take any one of them any day of the week. He helped me out with my dog and it really turned her around, I'd send anybody to him. Just my .02
