Post Patternmaster choke tubes
Anybody have any experience with these chokes in a SBE II? I'm wanting either a long range or extended choke, but can't decide which.

Most of the folks I know that have them have gone back to a more open choke. They are great in some situations, but not for every situation.

Really depends on what type of shells you are shooting. I shoot the Patternmaster Black Cloud chokes for my SBE I and love them. I have one for mid-range and one for long range. I have also found that they pattern regular steel tighter than a ported Patternmaster choke on paper targets.

I've been shooting a standard 2 row patternmaster out of my benelli m1 for several years. I handload my own steel shot and have found it to be an very effective combo. I have done a great deal of pattern testing as well. My nephew shoots the same out of his sbe2 with similar results.

I have a Patternmaster 'Code Black' duck arriving today via UPS.

When I get a chance...I'll test/pattern it on paper and post up the results here.

I bet if there was a thread made on patterning results and everyone posted they're particlar results and scenarios it would be very helpful. With gun choke and shell details. Just as craig is doing.

I shoot the old Original Patternmaster in a SBE and w/ #2, BB & T shot in 3.5" it shot a much more consistent pattern at 40 yrds. The High Flyer would have tight spots but large voids in the pattern. Some voids were large enuf to miss a gooses head and body completely. I take it out for turkey, dove and pheasant season and it goes right back in.
W/ all that being said there are probably a lot of chokes that are good. Try to find the one that likes Your gun and shot.

I shot Brileys as well. An extended light full does good out Of my 870 and 1100, and they are easy on the wallet.

Ok...just shot a few rounds.

Each paper was shot with 12 gauge, 2 3/4" 1oz. #6 steel shot with a velocity 1325 fps at 42.5 yds.

This first pic is using the new 'Code Black Duck' by Pattern Master.

This pic is using the stock Benelli Imp. Cyl. choke.

This pic is using a Carlson's IM choke.

The Carlson choke put more BB's on the paper but the Pattern Master appears to be the most dense.

Glad to see the patternmaster did well. I just put the order on a patternmaster ported extended full. I will say a large reason I ordered it is cause I got a great deal on it from an online store. They were or maybe still are having a special at 15% off. I'd name them, but I'm not sure if that interferes with sponsors and what not. If anyone would like to know you can pm for the info.

I would give the PM and the carlson a few more trys. They both look ok. The full pattern w/o gaps is what I like personally.

The extended intent is made for 3.5 inch shells with the longer wad it is needed to slow the wad down. Other then that it is the same as a long range. Paper shooting them doesn't show how these types of tubes work. They shorten your shot string not make your pattern tighter. So you would have do a follow through shot to check the true efficiency. All brands seem to work great i have a buddy shooting the foiles straight heat because of the price and lives it.

No they all do but the extended is needed to slow the wad down on 3.5" cause of the length of wad
