 DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
If anyone wants to head out, I'm putting over around 4am. I would be glad to somewhat guide anyone down that isn't that familiar. Can't guarantee you will kill, but pretty sure you will shoot. To clarify the above statement: You can follow me. I will point you in right direction once there. This is a lot better than learning on your own in the dark.
With Love, UNCLE J

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
I want to know who has the right of way at the Cut vs IC intersection in a fog? Without radar and radio how does one know if there's a tow approaching? I don't know if there's a safe way to do it without at least a marine radio monitoring traffic. How do y'all do it?

I only shot long range shots after they were out of bullets. I dropped the Canvas. My little cousin came over this weekend to hunt, and he did just that. Shot his first deer, first full limit of coots, and first mallard. Now, I most likely will never get a Thanksgiving week alone.

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
Then we have to run the Intercoastal. Just crossing it is a lot safer.
I also live in Morgan City, Louisiana. So, Cabot would add another 20 minutes onto our drive.

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
Why not just buy a radio and announce youre planning on crossing ICY on the cut and see if anybody tells you they are there too. The tows and such should respond if they are there.

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
My biggest concern in a fog would be other small boats running up from behind me or stopped in front of me. We run in fog in Henderson and that's my biggest fear. if everyone went a safe speed you should be alright. Its those running wide open that scare the crap out off me.

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
Like Bootzie said, the dixie pipeline area is like the juncture of I-10 and I-49...boats coming form every direction. Its a wonder more accidents don't occur, but there's plenty of season left for that to happen.

Re: DuckBirds in AM. WaxLake Outlet
When we used to cross the jump in Venice if you looked on the radar we would have atleast 5-6 boats running behind us in the fog. The small boats would wait at the fuel dock and when we crossed they followed.
A VHF is your friend in the fog if you know where you are.
