 Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
I'm looking for a commerical grade fillet knife. I'm not so much worried about the price because I look at it as the knife will pay for itself with the amout of fillets I catch. This is what I got, I have a number of hoop nets and catch plenty catfish and the knives I bought in the past don't hold up. I tried the original mister twister and that lasted me about a year and I burnt up the motor in it, so then I got the salt water mister twister and that one is going on about a year and a half and the motor on it is starting to go out. I look at the rapala ones but I'm nervous about getting one cause it looks like the replacement blades are hard to find for it. If I have to I will just buy a mister twister every year or so but I was looking for a knife to last me about 3-5 years. I'm cleaning about 500 to 800 fish a year so I would really like to find a decent knife. Thanks.

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
I use Dexter Russell filet knives. Good whetstone and steel to keep em sharp. Got my knifes from Memphis Net and Twine. I buy a dozen of each blade lengths. I also use a DR butcher knife too.

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
X2 on the dexter knives. I have a couple i keep in my boats for bait etc.
I just use the wood handle rapala filet knife. Cleaned many a fish with em.
I've never seen a fish house use electric knives. They may, I just haven't seen it.
A sharp knife will make much cleaner cuts than an electric, and just as fast.

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
Go to bed bath and beyond if you want a better electric. Dexter if you want a regular knife. I only use my electrics to clean trout. For those who say electrics fuck the fish up, you are doing it wrong. I also never buy new blades for my electrics I just buy whole new knife kits. The reason all y'all's are burning up is because y'all are on an off the button like a dickhead. I tape my buttons down

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
Dexter Russell and a good Case or Forschner sharpening steel and you should be good to go. If you maintain the knives with a steel and don't abuse them, they will never break down, wear out, or get so dull you can't use them.

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
Literally takes 2 minutes. I would rather sharpen a knife rather than a chainsaw blade.

 Re: Commerical Grade Fillet Knife
Check the prices through Memphis Net and Twine. I buy a lot of knives and their prices are really good. If you ever try using a Dexter Russel butcher knife for filleting catfish you might never come back.
