Bought this 10hp Dixie last fall. Wound up selling the Jon boat I had planned to use on and after our black brant season here we picked up a brant punt.

All aluminum custom welded beauty. It's a cross between a layout and sneak boat. The side walls fall inside and it's like you're in a laydown blind with doors. We use these for brant up here and ill be chasing other things aswell, cans on some slow water.

Anyways got it out finally in the nice weather today. This boat ain't light. Probably 300-400 lbs. but at idle and no RPMs it moved the boat perfectly. Everything I could ask for. It's not a true flat bottom or planning hull. Sortof flat with a little degree v but it moved fine.

It does have a 15" transom but I just found for my first time out the top end wasn't there. Low torque was excellent but top end not much for a speed demon. It'll be just fine for the slow stuff here. We'll probably put a 25-30hp yahama on it for brant in the deep salt water but I was going through grass islands like it was nothing today. It cut through the grass like butter. The other waterski boats were awestruck hahahaha

Not sure if maybe a prop change or something would give a little better speed. To me it sounds like it starts cavitating right after idle but I don't have a ton of experience. My other rig is a Momarsh with a 7hp Stumpjumper longtail which I enjoy for solo hunts.

Your hull design may be hurting your speed. I have a ten up Dixie that I bought for my kids. We have it on a 12/42 all weld and it does fine. 20 with the two kids and a 70 pound lab and 16 with me(185) one kid and the dog. May want to make sure you are getting the full rpm at wot.

Come on man you know you got's a better picture of your rig than that. Looks cool from what I can see.

And looking at some of Dixie's videos and other MMs I don't know if my trim was too low, I never had a full rooster tail unless I pulled it up. More test and tune I'm sure will get me where I wanna be

the slight v or more or less bulge in the bottom should not hurt your top end speed, if anything it should cause some lift making the boat faster......Im looking at the pic of the boat and seeing the angle of the drive with half the prop out of the water. on plane you would have to trim down even more to keep half the prop in the water. You need to double check the transom angle. That looks to be your top end problem.

Thanks. That's the sortof info or advice I'm looking for. Not sure on transom angle but I did just have the book in the water when I took that picture. I played around a bit trimming it up and down trying to find the sweet spot.

Idling around how deep should the prop be? And at plane it should be half in half out? Or does more come into play? Thanks. Get it out next weekend to keep tweaking it.

Our Dixie runs best with about 3/4 of the prop in the water. We DO HAVE to plane it out in shallow water.

trim it all the way down, hold it wide open and start trimming up, sometimes that is the best way to find the sweet spot.
