So last duck season I was without a boat and a friend insisted I use his secondary boat a few times. I really was reluctant but he really wanted me to run it because it doesn't get ran often. It's a 18ft Polar Kraft with 25hp Yamaha.

I used it lightly and treated it better than I would my own. Even washed and cleaned it out (like any decent white person would do) before I took it back to him about the second week of January.

He takes it out last weekend for the first time since he got it back from me. SUMBITCH BLOWS UP!! Water pump impeller fails and it burned up. Needs a new head, rebuild, etc. Basically too much money to justify rebuilding a 95 model.

He's not blaming me or anything but damn if I don't feel horrible about it. If I had disposable money I'd buy him a new motor, but unfortunately I don't have that kind of cash laying around. To beat it all, some asshole on the river wouldn't even give him a tow to the dock!

Hey bud it happens, Impeller, lower unit oil and carbs are the first things i look at before running an outboard that has been sitting up. Impellers dry rot horribly. Its just your good nature making you feel like that, horrible feeling

I'm sure you using it didn't cause his water pump to go out.

Learned a similar lesson. Used a buddy's longtail a few times and the shaft broke and lost the prop. Tried to tell me I hit shit and I broke it when you can clearly see the old oxidized metal vs. the fresh metal. Nice try bro. I'll replace it all since it happened when I used it, but you can bet your ass I'll never borrow anything again. Oh...BTW he asked to borrow my boat one time and the trailer came off the truck...thank goodness it happened in my subdivision going 20 MPH on the way back from the fishing trip and not on the interstate doing 70 on the way there!

Damn man that sucks. I have terrible luck so I refuse to use anyone's equipment. Took my dads boat out a few years ago and the engine broke and then the trailer on the way home. Last time I ever used anyone's stuff. Lol

that could not be a more true statement. i trust my hunting friends with my life, but wont be taking my boat without me anytime soon.

I don't like to borrow but I don't mind anybody using my rig. Hell itd give me a reason to upgrade if it goes boom. But if I had rigs like most of yallbon here Id prolly think a little diff bout that

Every time I borrow something it breaks, thats just my luck Ive learned... But i tell all my buddys to hook up to my boat/rhino/tractor or whatever they need whenever... I bought it to be used not to sit around

I always use the old saying, never loan out your wife or chainsaw because they'll both come back fucked.
Impellers should be replaced every 2 years or every year or sooner if running gritty water and they burn up in about 20 seconds running dry
