Clutch kit for older hyper drives
New to forum, bought second hand hyperdrive 35 a while back and love it. Do they make a clutch kit for the older hypers. would need new access panel to top sprocket and clutch assembly. The new sport model access panel looks like it would fit but not sure.

Re: Clutch kit for older hyper drives
I just put a clutch on my older (04)hyper just call Justin at MB and he will get you set up. It took me about two evenings after work to do it my self. it will require a new belt housing with top cover, the clutch system new sprockets and belt. And you will have to modify your hand to install the switch. you can reuse your saft and lower cover. It cost around $800 parts only.

Re: Clutch kit for older hyper drives
Yeah that is kinda steep but I just went run it on my new built boat. 18'x50". One thing I noticed with the new boat was it runs really flat, need some weight in the rear. It runs so ftal that I can't hardly trim it up. This is great for shallow water but I think due to transom angle, I can't trim the porp out of the water thus I have no NEUTRAL at all now except when you kill it. The other thing I noticed is that it pulls to left ( motor torque). Didn't notice this in other boat, could be because it has less draft?????? Did hit 29mph though.

Also, RichardB, did you loose any speed with the clutch kit? How do you like it?

Re: Clutch kit for older hyper drives
I did not loose any speed or performance. And I love the clutch. The clutch has three setting Neutral, momentary and fully in gear. The momentary is really helpful at the ramp. And every time I stop I am not shutting the motor off or holding the prop in the air. You can see picks of the motor with the new clutch on my boat review: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4596Mb did try to sell me a new style handle, but it was easy to just run the wires to my existing box and put in the switch. I Mounted my switch on the outside of the box this way my clothing (jacket or gloves would not catch the switch and I can drive with my right hand and reach over with my left and operate the switch. If you look close you can see the switch on the handle. I have also posted a picture almost done with the project. You can see which parts are new because of the different color. Re: Clutch kit for older hyper drives
You shouldn't lose any speed with the clutch. It is much, much better than what you have now. You may need to use a shim to get the proper trim angles. 29 is fast too.

Re: Clutch kit for older hyper drives
mb has a shim to get the prop up higher, Just call them and they'll hook u up. I had a 2004 18hp hyper, couldn't put the clutch on it due to smaller top sprocket. I thought they said $450 also? oh well. I have a 2008 35 hyper now with the clutch, much nicer, especially the momentary switch. I think it's worth the investment. IMO. never had one with reverse, so I don't miss it, yet??
