Post Re: Opening day tactics
About two years ago me and my buddies had some really good hunts on this spot two days in a row and decided to hunt the area again the next morning. We pull up at 5AM and at first I was like wtf are all of these ringers doing, but got closer and realized some piece of chit had put out about 9 dozen ringers and coots all over where we were planning on hunting. I said fuk it and blinded up and left my decoys in the bag. Of course, here he come 15 mins before legal light. We were blinded up and I waited til he was about 20 yards from me and then hit him with the spotlight. He started cursing and hit the gas, we could hear him cursin all the way across the lake. He shot about 4 times that morning. He came back an hour or two later to pick up his decoys and we were sailing birds into his decoys all around him, safely, it was funny as hell. He never said a word to us.

I had a group of guys in Dagmar in AR steady creep up on us (5 guys) before daylight. No matter how many times we shined them off they wouldn't back off. As soon as the sun came up, sure enough they had set up in the same opening we were in. We had a few words, they got all butt hurt we beat them to their spot, etc. Eventually they left. An hour later after we picked up we were walking out and saw that they just left their decoys, Dakotas might I add, in the open. One of my buddies threw everyone of them in the trees...

Thats a different world over there Lunacris. Those TX corp lakes and others are the biggest water around. A private lease is a few farm tanks and stuff like that. I hunted around DFW for 6 years and its a different world than south louisiana.

Gotcha, I'd like to make a hunt in TX this season. Try something different, what is the cost for an out of state license in TX?

I hunt PAC. I get there early, and always have a couple back up spots if some one is close to me. I grew up hunting in the Montegut club, but when my dads pond started turning into a bay we got out, and started hunting public land. No complaints aside from the random dc idiot, but they have been fewer and further between. If they don't get the hint shinning em, there is always raining on em.

I wouldnt mind a lease, but haven't found any yet to get in to close enough to home.

I know some guys that moved a refuge sign to a hole to keep people out of then took it down to hunt.

Go earlier than the next guy...

If someone tries to setup waaaay too close tell them to either leave or hunt with you. We're all out just to have fun. No point on having a 'bad' hunting experience if you can avoid it...

That's how I met foldinwings and skinnerton outlaw the first time. Their buddies pulled into the slough I was set up in with three guys in a 14' Jon boat. I'd forgotten my beer and calls in the truck and they'd forgotten their cigarettes and lighter. The guy that smoked hopped in my boat with some cold beer and the other two hunted in my other spot a few hundred yards down the slough. We all killed birds and drove them back and forth to each other, and I met all their buddies back at the ramp after the hunt, which included the two mentioned above.

Got these from somebody else on here but thought they were fitting  Go to the public land right at shooting hours. Listen for gun shots. More the better. Then ease that way and get within hearing distance. Wait until they are done and gps the location and either go back to the truck or let them clear out and then set up and hunt. That seems to be what others do to me so I figure its good for them.
The next day get there super duper early and jump the hole. Be aggressive when they show up and dont let them hunt with you. They will not let you hunt with them. When done early go and do the same thing at least twice a day. In a three day hunt you will have six spots to hunt or post on the internet.
If they get nasty with you post the gps cords on the fuge.
Remember to put a lock on your reese hitch and boat trailer latch.
Remind those that oppose its public land not theirs.

I saw a group of guys that put glow sticks 30yds apart in a public dove field. It kept the crowd way down. We didn't fall for it when we pulled up and only saw one truck sitting there but almost everyone did. When the sun came up it was only us and them in a 100 acre field. Pretty crafty
