I started mine on a cap gun the first time I fed her. Then later on blank 22 around the corner worked my way up next to her. Then got a dummie launcher with 22 blanks. Then dove hunting then teal all with 2 3/4 loads. Big duck season came around can't even put gun in case withhout her trying to pull it off the gun she loves it sometimes she will just go stare at the gun safe and look at me like were is it.

This does not sound like a gun shyness issue. The dog obviously is just scared of alot more. I would recommend using live pigeons with clipped wings. I say pigeons and not ducks because the smaller size will not intimidate the dog which already has some fear issues. Let him play with one every day for a week, no training just play. He will probably kill a few, but this should get him excited. The next week let him start retrieving them. The third week start over with live duck with clipped wings. Just play for the first few days, by the end of week 3 he should be excited about retrieving live duck. Now it will be time to start on noise conditioning. When throwing the live bird have some one a ways off shoot a .22 rifle. As he get comfortable with the gunshots on retrieves have the shooter move closer until he can shoot right next to you. The following week do the same process with a shotgun. Each days event should last about 15 minutes once a day then back in the kennel. It may not take the whole five weeks, if you see great progress you a free to speed the timeline up. If you see negative result take a step back. I hope this can help.

P_foster and duck hearse are telling the truth. Popping firecrackers or a pop gun while they eat helps them. I took my boykin to the range and left him in the truck with the windows down just a bit and shot a lot! he finally just tuned it out. Just takes time and patience.

Mine will hunt all day long, but when he's hanging out at the house and it starts thundering the big baby tries to climb in your lap and doesn't like going outside when its raining unless he's going hunting or to retrieve
