Repair and get going again.... Sh*t happens. Is the block a weldable crack or did it break a chunk out?

Re: another one bites the dust
Seems to me there is a common thread with EVT and motor failures. Just a thought, but it sounds like they are pushing the motors harder than they are equipped to handle. Not trying to open up a can of worms, but it seems pretty consistant to me. It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when with beyond a EVT stage 1. This is not from experience, just from reading all of the threads.
BTW- I am sorry about your motor man, that really sucks!

Re: another one bites the dust
It sure is a shame, but it seems this is becoming more common. Poor guy this happend to said the owner of EVT told him he should get at least 300 to 500 hours out of a stage 3, before changing piston rings. He said the motor was completely reliable, and would be very strong and the longevity of the motor would hold up for the long haul!!! Thats pretty strong words for so many catastrophic failures of EVT built engines in the last year. This one had a total of 30hrs. $$$$4000 dollars spent and 30hrs of use and all they can say is oh well thats the way it go's. Thats pretty crappy if you ask me. I'd be worried about my buisness and reputation If I was EVT. It sure is putting a bad taste in alot of peoples mouths, including mine, and I could use some mods for my rig, but they will have to prove alot more than cracked cams, cracked blocks, and dropped valves before I mod up my motor.

Re: another one bites the dust
look guys, if u mod motors to twice their original hp, run high compression, and spin up the rpm's ..... then go beat them up on the back of a mudboat..... they gonna blowup. if they would handle the mods then brigs would sell them that way. i'm lucky to get 500hrs on a stock engine.

Re: another one bites the dust
The guy spends 4 grand on mods and his engine blows up in 30 hrs!! I don't care what EVT told him, that is bullshit! I would want my money back, or my stock engine replaced. Any fool can jack up an engine and blow it up! They shouldn't be doing the mods at all, otherwise they are stealing money with false claims of speed and performance. IMO. I don't think this thread is BS at all... I know I won't buy anything from EVT. This pisses me off, and is not even my motor!

Re: another one bites the dust
How much can you actually expect from these things? I mean, come on bruh, its a lawn mower motor. If ya want to play in mud, get a mud motor. If ya want to go fast, get a raceboat.

Re: another one bites the dust
It's not bullshit at all the worsds came strait frome the owner money hungry mikes mouth that the engine would last. I dont know of any stage 3 that has made it even 100hrs w/o tearing up. He's good for taking your buisness and money, but when his shit wont hold together thats not his fault. I'm pretty sure That man JD's cam went crack at 6hrs. and mike didn't want to replace it, because he said it was installed incorrectly. The bottom line is theirs not much truth to the mans word at all, and if you think your wasting your time posting, than dont but some people are interested about EVT motors coming apart, and the owner not wanting to hear or do anything about it, its ok as far as he's concerned, or a lot of free rebuilds would have taken place. This is not bull shit at all my friends it's the cold hard truth strait from the mans mouth "IT WILL LAST"!!!!!

It sure seems the stage 3 was tested at the customers expense, and not the builders

Re: another one bites the dust
I only got 16 hours out of mine in a years time and 8 teardowns later, they sent me all parts but i still had to pay a total of 1200 dollars to get it fixed + the 4300 it cost me for the stage3 build. In the end i sent the motor back to evt,oh that was another 350 dollars i had to come up with to ship it back, and then they sent me a brand new powerhead .Thats the only smileyface you will see in this reply. But iam still out a chit load of money it was just a big pain in my as* .

Re: another one bites the dust
I don't care what the guys at evt say or the dealers selling the parts say, you can't set these 35's up that hot and have them stay together. I heard them all : {We have bunches of them out there running 100 + hours}, {The modded parts are better quality and more dependable}, or my favorite { Ya the higher rpms are going to effect Eng life a little, but those motors are made to run 100,000 hours, how many hours you run a year?}.
The blocks are failing, The Evt re welded cams are failing when used with roller rockers ,sometimes even with the stock rockers. The mikuni rubber mounts failing and leaning out motors.

Re: another one bites the dust
I would add stainless steel valves (stock size) and air filter assembly and that is about it. I like the idea of modding your stock components. This is where I think Gecker can differentiate himself. Providing reliable performance gains at reasonable RPM and compression levels at a rreasonable price! May not be the fastest on the water, but IMO you are getting all you can out of a "stock" motor.

Re: another one bites the dust
Have been through it myself, rounded one of the first bps cams (on a MB45), taking out the entire motor.............granted MB and BPS took care of me at no charge, had me thinking that my motor was just a bomb ready to go off... Sold it, and now content with just running my PD stock, plan on a carb and exhaust but thats about it...........reliablity rulez now, must admit it does kill me getting passed while running with Mudd and afew other guys but the piece of mind that my motor isn't gonna blow at a moments notice is nice.......
