 Re: Strapping down your boat.
I strap from an anchor point on one side of the trailer to the handle welded on the opposite top side of the transom. Straps cross each other like an x and keep the back of the boat fr sliding around not sure about the pro drive but my motor has a trailering bracket

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
Ok, thanks. Does your motor bounce around alot? Right now I put a strap from an anchor point on the trailer around the lower unit and back to the anchor point on the other side of the trailer to keep it from bouncing. I'm wondering if strapping it down like this is messing up my hydraulic trim somehow. If I dont strap it down like that I worry about it messing something up on the motor or messing up the transom from all the bouncing.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
All the prodrives I've seen were in reverse and trimmed down on the bottom of the transom.

Straps from rear tow eyes to trailer. GTR trailering bracket and trimmed down to snug it up.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
When I had my pd I let it flop around... I did eventually put a strap over lu from transom grab handle to the other to keep bouncing and flopping to a minimum.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
As much as I put that boat and motor through, a little bouncing on the trailer wasn't gonna hurt it. It's funny, nobody tailgated me with it flopping around..... hell nobody stayed behind me long... lol

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
Boat buckles are the best thing. Took me about a minute to strap the boat and put transom bracket on my GTR. Well worth the money IMO.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
If you have the boat secured to the trailer where it wont move, a transom saver from motor to trailer is the best option IMO. You need something to hold up on the motor and keep it from bouncing around. On a weighted back motor it is a lot more crucial, that is a lot of weight flexing the transom every time you hit a pothole.... especially on these great La roads.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
letting the motor flop around may not be that bad on the boat but it cant be good for it either.
as for strapping the boat to the trailer that different. i lost an airboat on the interstate once and that was no fun. im not so worried about loosing a mud boat off the trailer but it helps the trailer in the long run.
try this- when the trailer is empty bounce on the middle of the trailer. most will flex alot. when the bow is tight and the transom is tied down it adds alot of support to the trailer. plus ive seen trailers hit a pot hole and see 2 feet of air between the hull and bunks. i would think thats worse than a stump for the boat.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
define "float"
the less all of it moves, the less problems you'll have.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
I throw a 3" ratchet strap over the boat about a third of the boat length from the bow or where the cross member is. Hooking it to the trailer at about a 45 degree angle. There is no way it will ever come off the trailer and the angle keeps it from moving side to side wearing on your bottom. Then you can use a transom saver as the boat and trailer move as one.
If you're using the rear ratchet straps to your transom make sure they strap at an angle ( if they are not, move them, you don't want them strait up and down) keeping the boat from moving side to side and make sure you use a secondary bow strap of some kind. I've seen boat break lose at the bow, blow over and get dragged down the road upside down... not good!!!!

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
Side bunks, and trailer buckles! I wasn't going to get them but was talked into them and will never own another boat trailer without them. No more where da hell i put that strap. Super easy and headache free. I can say i originally had the pvc guide posts, frogs gg made it slide side to side, added side bunks, no problems now.

 Re: Strapping down your boat.
i put ratchet straps on the four corners of the boat. Each is fastened to welded on handles on the boat and tie down points on the trailer. The stern is pulled down hard. The bow is only taunt to allow the trailer to flex. I also have a safety chain on the bow attached to the second bow eye. The bow is also secured (of course) by a 5000 strap winch. The boat sits between 2 X 6 X 6' carpeted side bunks supported by thick walled 2" aluminum square tubing in two places. The Prodrive is strapped down as my dealer specified with a cam strap across the lower unit and fastened to two designated eyes on the back of the trailer. It is only brought up snug, not tight.
