Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
Too bad there pedegree is crap like u said. A grand title still has no value on a dog u can't register UKC or AKC . Meaning the breeding value is zip. I'm pretty sure not just anyone can train a lab with great pedigree, plus your only at started. There pretty pups but, you Might wanna recant the statement anyone can train a high pedigree dog ( got a few full time trainers on MMT ). Anyone can pass a started title. The dog doesn't even have to hand you the bird, just has to put it in your vicinity. Get a seasoned then talk.

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
Nice that your dog will go get whats drop , but bragging on a sh title is really no big deal . I expect you've just started not to long ago playing the hunt test game . Most experience amateur and pro dog trainers don't waste their time running started test , I don't . I start my in season level test . If you are happy with your dogs , fine . But silver , charcoal , or whatever color trying too pass off is a mutt . Plane and simple . AKC and UKC only recognize black , yellow , and choc . The parent LRC has stated that no other color will be recognize .

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
Just to clarify when I said SH I was referring to a AKC Senior Hunter title. There is more to it than just two simple retrieves. I love how everyone talks about how a diluted chocolate could not pass a hunt test and no one gets health clearance on them and when you do they still hate on it and say that that's nothing they will never title as a master hunter. We will see what happens when they receive a MH and see what the response is then.

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
Still dunno how they ran in the hunt test. AKC and UKC do not recognize the silver lab as a breed or any dog with silver lab in there blood line. They do make exception in non registered dogs if I'm not wrong. I think they can get there title but no points. Don't remember how it goes. Waste of money if u ask me

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but all three off colors (red, silver, charcoal) will still be registered AKC and UKC. They will just be yellow, black, or chocolate. Is that right?

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
What I was saying. Why waste your money doing hunt test with a dog that will not be able to be registered with UKC or be desired by any breeders ? I'll take my choc any day over a silver

Re: One Breed of Lab Smarter Than The Other?
I have had just about all the colors but Silver and Red. Multiples of each and each color had different abilities. Some could do what the others couldn't or wouldn't, and others that just excelled beyond them all. I will say that from all the labs I have had in the last 45 years, the blacks held the best attitude, were easier to train, and seemed happier to work. Talking bout dogs here . I had one Choc male that was just as good as the best black I had but lost him to theft. I honestly don't believe that the color of a lab has anything to do with it's ability to learn and it's capabilities in the woods. I think pedigree and genes from good parental stock that had hunting backgrounds mean more than anything else. Curl
