Post TV repair...anyone? anyone?
I've got a 50" Mitsubishi projection TV that is about 9 years old that has been losing the picture. It all of a sudden goes black, sound is still there, but no picture. If i give it a slap on the side, the picture would come back...until last night whipping...now i got nuth'n. Any ideas? Thanks,
Woody

Light engine possibly? Doesn't sound like a bulb. Bulb is the only thing worth replacing though. Light engine, color wheel, power supply all cost too much. Bulbs are about three hundred bucks.
You can open up the back and remove the bulb, if its blown replace it. If not your problem lies elsewhere. Check for loose connections anywhere you can see. More than likely gonna have to replace the tv though.
You can get a new 60" mits dlp for about a grand 65" for about 1200. New style bulbs are only 100 bucks to replace.
Hope that helps.

Dude the TV isn't worth fixing. If you can find the parts and do it yourself, it may be doable. But if you have to get a TV tech to do it and add in the price of parts(if they are available), your most likely looking at $400+. A 9 year old tv isn't worth the money you'll spend on it to fix. Suppose something else goes out after it's opened up? More $$ to fix again. Best bet is to bite the bullet, go to Best Buy and get a 3-4 year no interest deal (pay it off asap) and find you a nice LCD in your price range.

I have a 50" LG Plasma. Bought it in Nov 07. About 8 months ago I was watching tv and I heard about 3 short pops and the screen went black but could still hear the audio.

I checked online to see if it was still under warranty because it was just over a year old and thought I was screwed. Turns out that if I had bought it in Dec instead of Nov, I would have only had a 1 year warranty. Needless to say that when I saw that I had a 2 year warranty. Boy was I glad :D

Lucked out and found a repair place in New Iberia. The guy told me the part (which was basically the all guts of the thing) was $1200.00. The part came shipped in a crate that looked like they were shipping nuclear weapons in. I told the guy that they should have just given me a new tv they would have came out better.

But yea, your tv ain't worth fixin'. That's just the way it is with electronics these days.
