 time for some mods
well after two years im having some issues w my motor. Bad timing but o well im going to let warranty fix it then have the heads decked .030 while im in there.
Engine started burning a little oil once i got the motor hot it would smoke a little when idleing. ok no big deal keep il keep oil in it and get threw teal season and take it in, well opening day i hit a tree and snaped my shaft and prop completly off! i had to be towed in. I fixed that and made a few good hunts and the smoke got a little worse, and the last hunt i could only get like 3000 rpms in the water(like 16mph), out of water it still hits rev limiter.. so i pulled the air box off and there was some blow by oil in there. i got to the house changed plugs, fuel filter, fuel, air filter, and water seperater and did a compresion check. one side had 135 and the other had 110. they both held compresion. I put it back in the water and it still smoked but i got 26 mph out of it.
I took it to a guy in crosby tx named robert. I hear he is pretty good. Any ideas on what it could be? If im getting 26 27 mph before head work and valves being set perfectly what do you guys think i will get with head work and my problem being fixed?

JMO, deck more than .030". I would go about .045" - .050", that will get your compression up to about 180 - 185. Then anything you add to it will be a compliment. As far as head work, it really depends on a few factors. What other mods do you have, is your hull hooked or look like a golf ball on the bottom, Stock exhaust? But a good set of heads ported and decked is always helpful.

 Re: time for some mods
If you are burning oil (getting oil in the cylinder) its either: -head gasket leaking -valve stem seals leaking -rings leaking
Oil blowing up the crank breather tube into the carb indicates pressure in the block. Head gasket leak between head and push rod area could be one source, rings would be the other.

 Re: time for some mods
thanks for all the replies as far as the compression goes wouldn't it leaked out while doing a compression test if it was the rings? I also talked to warren coco at go devil and he said that he thought it could be pressure frombthe gas tank not venting off. But that was before I did a compression test. Iv been thinking valves the whole time. What mods can he do to them while he is in there? Also on the heads.030 not enough? I want to do all the mods the whole works but this will prob be it threw hunting season. Biggest thing for me is carrying a load.

 Re: time for some mods
ur compression gauge will hold the pressure cause it has a valve in it! and my bet is head gasket is blown!

 Re: time for some mods
Pop the valve covers and pressurize the cylinder and stick your finger down in there and see if you can feel a leak.
