Hey guys,

Just bought a new Mud Buddy HD 5500 Black Death this past week. One of the guys I hunted with said something to me this morning that the exhaust was different than another one that he had seen. I can't find the motor on the Mud Buddy page to confirm what muffler is supposed to be on there. I can tell you after looking at it, the one on my motor has what appears to be a Briggs & Stratton logo stamped on it. What I can find out there on the web, it looks like it is supposed to be a stainless aftermarket pipe.

Did the boat dealership get one over on me?? What muffler is supposed to be on there? Not to mention they put too big of tires on the trailer and noticed today that the rubbed the fenders every time I hit a bump?

If this motor is supposed to have an aftermarket exhaust and I paid $8125, I say I've been had. And this was from a Mud Buddy dealer. This looks very "stock."

I don't think the bd motors come with a bps muffler anymore. They used to come with a cam, heads, rockers and pushrods, and muffler. Then they cut back to head , carb, exhaust. Now I think it's just heads and carb. The hd 5500, is a bps motor, also called 55mag, bps 5500, ect ect. They do make cdi mag motors to.

I know in 2014 the 4400 came with stock exhaust.

My bd 45 came with stock ex but I replaced it with a q

is the only difference between 5500 bd and 4400 bd the twin carbs?

Here is the page but they don't show a 5500. In fact I didn't see any dual carb motor


Now, saying this when I bought my mag. Mud buddy was out of q mufflers, so they had a stock on it, once they had some I was shipped a q. So in reality I made out pretty good because i got a stocker and q. My dealer told me about it though, so I assume if that is the case someone should have let you know.

I found the motor on the BPS page, does not say anything about having an aftermarket muffler. The 5500 Mag does come with aftermarket so maybe it is just stock in the Black Death. I emailed Mud Buddy/BPS so maybe I will hear something tomorrow.

Mud buddy is not building mags right now, arkmos is redesigning the mags. Which is why it's not on their page

I though it was an issue with the epa?

Pretty sure they said they was putting the muffler on the v models. Who knows

I believe your right, but they said originally they would redesign. I guess they were going to try to make them pass emissions, but who really knows

I've called left a message for micah, he called back the following day. Not a bad turn around.

Micah got back to me and confirmed that the 5500 Black Death should come with a Q muffler. Called the dealer and they assured me that no muffler swap took place. They said the reason for the loose exhaust bolts was that they had to rob the gaskets for a repair. ???????????

All the Black Death motors come w a stock stainless exhaust. The V44 also comes w a stock stainless

The MB site is currently wrong and will be fixed per MB when I called about the same issue recently.
