Re: THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO HUSTON
Better duck and goose hunting close to Houston.... Better dove and deer hunting close to Austin... Freshwater fishing good near both but Houston has saltwater 30 minutes away...
Both have tough traffic and seedy downtowns - you want to live in the outer suburbs on the side where you will work....
Good to have choices - both have strong economic growth and good jobs Houston might have a bit stronger overall economy but Austin has cleaner air and likely a bit less crime...

Re: THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO Houston
After 5 years I got out of Huston (as you call it lol) and I am not going back. Maybe it would have been different if I had family there... I lived on the west side off of barker cypress and worked at I-10 and Hwy 6 in the energy corridor. My commute was ~12 miles and took 50 min to an hour on normal days and 1.5 hrs on bad days. I suggest you live within 3 to 5 miles of where you (or your woman) works. Check out har.com to get an idea of the market. I don't mean to be all negative, Houston has a lot offer, I'm just a small town guy. Good luck.

Re: THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO Houston
I live about 45 mins north of Houston and luckily only have about a 5 minute commute. Houston sucks, the traffic is unbelievable and there are parts of town that are rough, but you can get in the truck and be in the woods or in the marsh within an hour.

Re: THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO Houston
i moved away from Austin a few years ago. Now that city has exploded, property is over priced, highways can't support the population (at least houston has traffic that moves) if i HAD to move to Texas San Antonio or Dallas would be my only options.

Re: THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO Houston
I travel to Houston a few times a week for work. I really can't stand it there but that's just me. I like my small towns. My main office is in Lafayette and that's about the biggest city I want to deal with.
