Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
Does that mean if im running in the dark and i hop a log i have to pull a lever in for the shaft to clear it cuss that could cause ALOT of beating in that shaft???

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
you do not want to have any kind of SD or LT "locked" in at any point, someone or something will get hurt. either you, someone with you, the transom, or the motor. neither one would be good.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
im thinking the same thing to have it locked in a position to to the transome sounds like a bad idea i understand like a pin to not allow it to go any farther down in the water but how does the bend in the bottom of the shaft make it go faster like a surface drive i would think the traditional long tail would probably be the best suited for this

Call me crazy, but those are both SDs in the pic at the top of the forum.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
Pretty much what I'm saying. Yes. As compared to the cav. plate. The LT may not be at that angle when normally running, but surface driving, YES.
Just like I told previous noobs before, I'll offer to help anybody out as much as I can, but if you gonna come on here and start debating my opinions and make a big shit out of it, fuck off.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
If I wanted to run my LT at that more "efficient" angle all the time all I would have to do is set the set bolt to stop it from running down and would be just as "efficient" respectively to the gearing.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
I am not saying you are wrong.
I know those are SD.
I thought you were telling me that a LT's angle the way the prop sits in the water is just as efficient as a SD's prop angle.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
Both of the pictures of the SD prop's look to be running close to parallel with the water.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
To get a Lt to run at its fastest capable speed you will have to surface drive the prop.
Is this correct?

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
I am, in regards to prop angle. Repective to how you are running them and gearing. You can't compare the one in the pic to running a LT underwater. The LT is not surfacing. Surface the LT and they are the same. Drop them both below the surface and they are the same, efficiency wise. Then you would factor the gearing and size of the wheel. As a total package the PD is a more efficient UNIT, but we're simply talking PROP ANGLE here.
Efficiency on the unit is all going to depend on what hull you run it on too. An upward angle would benefit some by helping run flatter if the ass end is a lil too heavy.

Putting pods on the back will also help with the ass end dragging.
Would a surface driving big prop on a LT have better forward thrust.

Kibb I was never trying to argue with you sorry if you though I was. I was just asking questions to make sure I was understanding you correctly.

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
Would surface driving a LT with a big prop with a reduction like SD has be more efficient?

Re: New Hybrid mud motor design
His is built different. His is a Lt with a shorter shaft. I am claiming something totally different then his design.
It would be like saying a rapala jointed and a rapala not jointed are the same lure. They aren't they are two completely different designs and do two completely different things.
