Would a 33hp generac with a aftermarket mukuni carb outperform the 36 kohler and 36 vanguard? Will the generac have a better holeshot and a better top end?

Just wondering cause my buddy has 33 generac that he is putting a aftermarket mukuni carb on and says the generac will out perform both.

He may be right. I know they're not the best idea for an out of the box motor, but have heard they are a powerhouse from more than one guy who builds these things. Just not practical for a stock engine. I've never seen a modded one. I would say it'd be worth a shot. Carbs were one of the issues I discussed with kp recently. I was looking into replacing a 27 kohler with one of those generac's. He said too much to fix, better off with the marine van. It's ready to go out the box, and very reliable stock.

I would think it would need more than a carb to really outperform the van. Only one way to find out. The generac is a lighter weight engine than the van I think. May not be built quite as tough. I dunno mod the hell out of it and see what happens.

According to generac spec sheet it looks like it could be close.
Here is the site- http://www.generac.com/PublicPDFs/0171740SBY.pdf
But I am not for sure so that is why I am asking?

Here is a question since the generac has more torque could you put a steeper pitch prop like 12/13 and raise the ref limiter to spin the prop faster to get more top end and better hole shot. Or will that steep of a pitched prop bog the motor down to much.

You'll have to wait for someone else to chime in on that. I don't know a whole lot about the different props. Both ours are still stock. Motors too, been looking into mods, or bigger powerheads. Done a lot of research on that stuff over the last few months, but have not got into the props yet.
The generac seems like more work than its worth. If you have one, play with it and see what happens. If your lookin to buy one, just buy the marine van.

We have built a fully modded Generac and it is still running strong compared to the Briggs. The owner has a Stage III GTR as well and told me that the Generac out pulls, has better hole shot and carries a load better. Top end is the same but the Gen is on a smaller Gatortrax boat. He has taken both over the 38 mph mark and held it. I personnally like my 31HP over the 35HP. It comes out of the hole faster, harder, accelerates quicker, and has alot less vibration. The Generac is the same stroke as the 31 but with a much larger bore. :D Therefore I think I will like it too.

What about if you keep the stock carb would it still do the same?

I have heard some people say that keeping the stock carb and modding the stock carb is better then putting a mukuni on if you are not gonna do any other upgrades. Is this correct?

Ran blue printed stock carbs and there was no comparison against the Mikuni or S&S Super E.
