 coil pack?
Motor pretty much shit out on me hunting this evening. Was running wide open then lost all power and motor sounded completely different. Like it wasn't making power. Had to idle all the way back home but no matter where I had the throttle it wouldn't pass 1000 rpm. Once we got to the ramp it wouldn't start at all. Got home and checked the plugs to find one wasn't sparking. Took the other out and swaped sides and it sparked just fine. Compression was fine on both sides. So we ran to town And got 2 new plugs and got it to start again but it still sounded like it wasn't making any power....coil pack was a suggested problem but I'm not very "mechanically inclined" so no idea if that's it or not. Any input from anyone who knows a thing or two about these motors?
At least its the last weekend of the season..did cut my hunt tomorrow out of the picture though....

 Re: coil pack?
If it was a stock or CDI coil engine, I would tell you to disconnect the ground wire and then see if its firing. Not sure on the EFI how to diagnose a coil pack.
Do these things throw error codes that can be read or do you have to take it in to Briggs?

 Re: coil pack?
Pull the plug wires one at a time and see if it will start. If it starts on one and not the other the usual fix is a new coil. When you open things up, look for chaffed or loose wires in the off chance that could be the problem. Let us know what fixes it.

 Re: coil pack?
Haven't got a chance to get into it yet but I tried to start it up again this morning after I got up and it sounded like the battery was dead? I don't know if it just died over night after cranking on it last night or what. And I know everything was turned off on it before I went to bed so I don't know why it did that...
Didn't miss anything hunting today though..the guys staying in the room next to us didn't fire a shot all morning

 Re: coil pack?
It is under warranty Bring it to the Nearest service center.. EFI's are crank triggered ignition along with the ECU to Fire they cylinders. The coil packs are mounted to the intake manifold.

 Re: coil pack?
Talked to GT and they said most likely from what I described was a loose or disconnected push rod. I'll check that tomorrow when I have time to look at it if that's not it there's a Briggs shop down the road from me. I'm not inclined enough to get into the motor any further

 Re: coil pack?
Ended up just taking it to the shop yesterday. Was ready this morning for pick up already. It was a disconnected rocker arm or a push rod, dont remember which she said it was but it was something disconnected lol. and gas in the oil.

 Re: coil pack?
Not keeping up with valve lash is what likely caused the rocker/push rod issue.
Fuel in the oil is likely from an over-pressurized fuel tank. Pushing fuel into the into the intake while the motor is sitting..it just seeps by the rings.

 coil pack?
You dont need a reason to check valve lash. It should be part of your normal maintenance schedule and should be checked after the first few hours of run time on a new engine. If you would have checked it, you would have fixed it before it became an issue.
That makes sense on gas in the oil.
Turning the governor up likely helped you, flint.

 Re: coil pack?
To be completely honest, I couldn't even guess at how to check the valve lash much less reset it. I am not by any means close to mechanicaly inclined. I know how to keep everything greased, oiled down, oil changed, and put the key in it and drive it.
